Number 2 Corner

Is that our biggest need on Defense? To me it is, I mean could you imagine Lewis with a number 2? What about Jackson from Houston? Could we afford this guy? Lewis, Jackson, and PROB?

Re: Number 2 Corner

I think all the free agent corners are out of our budget, but with Loomis who knows. I like Davon House from the Packers, if they let him get away

Re: Number 2 Corner

Some mock drafts have us taking CB Marcus Peters, he has size, good tackler and good ball skills

Also don't forget we signed that CFL guy Delvin Breaux, he may be a nice surprise!

On a unrelated note; 2014 might be the worst draft we have had in the loomis tenure.

Re: Number 2 Corner

draft has slim pickings for 1s but some solid options for #2s.

4 years 34 mil. lol They overpaid him. Better FA players out there and they will demand ridiculous contracts.

Re: Number 2 Corner

He's come a long ways... thanks to that devastating front 7. I remember how terrible he was the first couple of years in the league. The best time to capitalize on corners were the last two years where guys were signing 1 and 2 year deals. The market has gone back up and they're all looking to collect now.

Fix the pass rush back to 2013 level and we should be fine with a league average/slightly above average corner at 2.

well that's the weird thing, take the same group of guys up front and somehow they couldn't rush the passer...????

Chris Culliver. The best option would be me, but Culliver will do. 😏

There was a lot of weird things with the defense last season. People forgot how to tackle, rush the passer, stop the run, etc. Hopefully they'll "un-weird" everything this year.

Re: Number 2 Corner

Well signing a free agent (I've suggested Green Bay FA CB Davon House) would certainly provide more than enough competition to ensure a quality cornerback...

But consider there are two other important issues that affect that second CB position...

First, the pass rush was absolutely abysmal last season; defensive line coach at the least should have been sent packing; the upstart NT John Jenkins never got going with a pectoral injury; Glenn Foster was injured as well...

Second, Dennis Allen has returned and he may be able to turn the talent around that we have at CB already making it easier to focus on fixing the offensive and defensive line play in free agency and the draft...

So it is not as easy just signing a second cornerback and fixing all the defensive woes, team woes...

Re: Number 2 Corner

Good year to be a FA corner, not many great ones on the market so teams will over pay. Get the pass rush sorted andbit will help protect a poor cb2

+1. See Karem (sp) Jackson. Houston basically gave him a blank check & told him to insert his price. Grossly over paid for his services.

Blocking.
Pass Rush.
Tackling.

That's where we sucked last year.

I would add pass coverage to that list...

We better do something soon... Byron Maxwell, Brandon Flowers and Kareem Jackson are off the market. I say bring in Cromartie as a short-term option to help teach Delvin Breaux.

We dont have the money to bring in a vet looking for $, its not like we can spread the cost.

Re: Number 2 Corner

IMO, the biggest need on defense is a game changing NT who'd dominate the interior of the opposing O-lines.

@LarryHolder
With all the CBs flying off the board, I can't help but think Michigan State's Trae Wayne's will be starting for the Saints in 2015.

Re: Number 2 Corner

We don't have to sign big name guys. There are good underrated players out there. Media people usually get stuck on 3-4 big name guys (in this case CBs) and if they are gone it's end of the world. Talent is not the problem, it's money.

Five NFL teams were on hand to watch four players work out in very poor conditions at Furman's pro day Thursday. It had been raining earlier in the day, causing the field to be very wet, which had a big effect on times.

Safety Marcus McMorris (5-foot-11 1/4, 203 pounds) clocked a fast 3-cone drill of 6.94 seconds, which is very good, considering the weather and condition of the field. He also ran the 40 twice in 4.55 seconds and posted a 37-inch vertical, a 9-7 broad jump, a 4.20 shuttle, and 18 strength lifts. Brian Adams, a scout for the New Orleans Saints, worked McMorris out. He has a chance to be a priority free agent.

I'm glad we didn't sign Jackson. That would have been one stupid deal. More than 8,5mil?

On the bright side, apparently we are ready to spend money.
