Max Unger
Only played in 6 games due to injury last year. According to ESPN. I assume a physical was part of this?
|
Re: Max Unger
I hope so....because he is definitely not the strong point of the line...the line blocked better after he was out...
|
Re: Max Unger
Players have to pass a physical before they are signed anytime, and Graham has battled injuries the past two seasons... I like the trade for a pro-bowl center and a first :bng:
|
Re: Max Unger
if healthy i can live with the trade as long as the saints do not blow the pick. if he fails then i can not wait to see the new deal
|
Re: Max Unger
SO he and Graham are fan favs, gave good games, but have had injuries.
Seems even trade more or less. Could Saints need a good C there giving Brees more protection, time..? We will see. Unger might be another trade still.... |

We have two first round picks this year... Nowhere do I see an even trade, I think we suckered them just a little :bng: |
Re: Max Unger
Tim Lelito to guard and Grubbs or Evans on a bus out of town - UNLESS they would BOTH take a pay cut
|
Re: Max Unger
Armstead|Lelito|Unger|Evans|Strief
How does that sound? |

but Grubbs Unger Evans at the heart of the line is scary. either way we are more flexible in the middle of the OL now fix the wings OT Jake Fisher is the last piece of the puzzle in the draft. LT or RT of the bench would be huge in case of injury. will push for starting time day one of camp. |
Re: Max Unger
Draft Collins and ship out Grubbs
Lellito can be back up for the whole interior |
Re: Max Unger
Makes it interesting what we do now
LB with #13? OL with #31? |

Re: Max Unger
Ed Daniels on NOLA TV says the Saints may trade Brees too and move up to take a QB.
What could we get for Brees anyway? Hum.... |
Re: Max Unger
Anyone know cap swap/savings between Graham and Unger?

Re: Max Unger
From PFF:
Saints: Balanced Unger solidifies center spot Ben Stockwell | March 10, 2015 There may be some consternation about the Saints giving up Jimmy Graham in this trade but they have at least acquired one of the league’s premier centers and upgraded a fourth round pick to a first round pick with it. Though fans won’t be swooning over Max Unger’s play-making ability, he ties down the center of the Saints’ line with a quality blocker in both the run and pass games. This season injuries limited Unger to 385 snaps in the regular season but some punishing and consistent run blocking in those limited snaps ensured he finished as our No. 4 ranked center. Only twice in his nine starts last season did Unger grade below zero and he graded above +1.0 in six of those games. But for injury this season looked like being a match for Unger’s 2012 season where he earned a +31.1 overall grade, built around his run blocking where he never earned a run block grade below -1.0 all season long. The loss of Graham will be felt in New Orleans and the Saints will need plans in place to replace him, but their offense has always been at its strongest when it has balance, and that balance is centered on their offensive line. With Jahri Evans starting to decline the Saints have moved to lock down their interior offensive line with the acquisition of Unger and having re-signed Mark Ingram we may yet see a re-emphasis of the running game in New Orleans this season. |
Re: Max Unger
I am not surprised, I knew we had to make some cap room. However, I think we should have gotten A LOT MORE than a center with questionable health and a 1st rounder for a 4th rounder.
At the very least, we should not have needed to throw in the 4th rounder. It is difficult to believe that no one would have offered more than this. |
Re: Max Unger
Evan Woodbery @TheSaintsBeat
Follow Caponomics of move: ($9M Graham dead money + $4.5M Unger contract) - ($11M Graham original cap hit) = Saints net loss of $2.5M '15 cap space we lose 2.5 million this year but save 6.5 mil next year. plus the last two years (2015 & 16) of Unger contract is not guaranteed so no dead money |
Re: Max Unger
Going to have a lot of money to spend next year once the deals are cut.Holes to fill but the money will be there from what i can see

Re: Max Unger
Haven't focused in on the draft much yet, but is there anyone at any position that is worth moving up for?
We've only got enough coin between the two 1st rounders (on the draft chart) to move up to around #6. |

Re: Max Unger
Ill be pissed of we are using the second first to move up. We ha e too many holes to fill and that 2nd 1st is a good player cheap for 4 years.

Re: Max Unger
The Saints needed a center. If healthy, he is a steal. If not, he was a kind of a throw in to begin with. I would have seen if they would have thrown in ANY of their defensive players or coaches. :)
