A native of Hawaii who played college football in Oregon and has spent his entire NFL career with the Seattle Seahawks, Max Unger may not fully appreciate all that New Orleans has to offer when he's sweating through workouts this summer.

But the newest member of the New Orleans Saints will instantly become one of the team's more prominent players simply because of the way he was acquired.

The Saints traded star tight end Jimmy Graham and a fourth-round pick to the Seahawks for Unger and a first-round pick, a stunning move that sent managed to be the top story on what is perhaps the busiest day of offseason NFL news.

Unger, a center who will turn 29 next month, was drafted by the Seahawks in the second round with the 49th overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft.

He started all 16 games as a rookie, but suffered a toe injury in Week 1 of the 2010 season that forced him to go on the injured reserve.

Unger made the Pro Bowl in 2012 and 2013, but battled an ankle injury in 2014 that limited him to only six games. Unger is consistently one of the top-rated centers in Pro Football Focus' ratings.

He was born Maxwell McCandless Unger on the Big Island of Hawaii and raised on a 15,000-acre cattle and timber ranch, according to a profile in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.

Unger started in 52 consecutive games at Oregon, beginning his career at left tackle before playing the final two years at center.

Couldn't agree more. I feel a lot of people who never played O-line themselves can really comprehend how much you depend on the guy next to you doing his job. Its when you have to start helping somebody or compensating the line fails.

Yep, its truly the one NFL unit where the sum of parts is greater than the whole.

5 mediocre guys playing in sync would outperform 5 all pros playing even slightly out of sync.

Now that a little time has passed have Seahawks fans warmed up to Jimmy Graham a little? I know there was skepticism. He's a really great dude and I know he and Russell will have terrific rapport on and off the field.

If we get our fuard position sorted i really think Unger could be the difference in 2-4 wins. Look how many times over the past couple of years we have been in really close games and needed to run the clock better.

I said multiple times last year about Seattle ability to hold a lead in the final 5 minutes. So often you'd see them just grind minutes off the clock. Id love to see the Saints be able to do that.

According to the PEDHawks, Unger was great and very intelligent whenever he was in the line up. Meaning he was injured from time to time, enough times evidently in recent years such that he's yet to play in all 16-19 games. Let's hope his health improves for us.

He has been in Hawaii and yet to take his physical, not that he has failed his physical. He played in Seattle's post season games, I see no reason why he would fail

I know a Seahawks fan that is beyond upset that Unger is gone, from what I gathered Unger is a B** A** MFer which is what this team has missed on the offensive line since Turley left

I believe what he said when Turley left because the organization was a joke back then so it made sense, he seems to have a combative personality but it works for playing tackle in the NFL but yeah it seemed odd he didn't say much until the lawsuits came around.
