WWL reported last night that he was "in high demend" by Haslet and crew. Gotta be better than what we have right?

Terry Robiskie

Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator
Year with Browns: 4th
Year in NFL: 23rd

Terry Robiskie was named offensive coordinator for the Cleveland Browns on January 9, 2004. Robiskie is in his fourth season with the Browns after serving the previous three seasons as wide receivers coach. The 2004 season will be his 23rd in the NFL, and his 22 years of NFL experience includes roles as a position coach, offensive coordinator and head coach.

In 2002 as receivers coach, the Browns and the NY Jets were the NFL’s only teams to have three players with 5+ TD receptions, and the Browns were one of six teams to have five players with 37+ receptions (Buffalo, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Philadelphia, Seattle). Wide receiver Quincy Morgan ranked 2nd in the NFL (James McKnight, Miami, 18.2) with 17.2 average yards per catch.

Prior to joining the Browns in 2001, Robiskie spent the previous seven years with the Washington Redskins and concluded the 2000 season as the Redskins head coach for the final three games of the regular season following the departure of Norv Turner. Robiskie’s record as head coach was 1-2, including a 20-3 win over Arizona on December 24.

Did anyone happen to see Cleveland play this year??? And this would be a good thing???

I think Clevelands problems were more talent related than coaching related.

I agree with you Danno. Their receivers are all number 3s, and they did beat the Ravens early in the season when \"the soldier\" was healthy. Also their o-line is horrendous. Definitely more talent related than coaching.

BTTT...
Here\'s some decent info on Robiskie...

Robiskie began the 2000 season as passing game coordinator in Washington and helped the Redskins rank fifth in the NFC in total offense (337.3 yards per game) and passing (228.0 yards per game). He helped running back Stephen Davis total 1,318 yards and 11 touchdowns on 332 attempts, including five 100-yard outings.

He entered the coaching profession with the Los Angeles Raiders in 1982 as the assistant running backs coach where he tutored Marcus Allen to two Pro Bowls and two 1,000-yard seasons. Robiskie was the assistant special teams coach for the Raiders from 1985-87, and he tutored the Raiders tight ends in 1988.

Robiskie was the Raiders offensive coordinator from 1989-93. In 1990, Oakland ranked 9th in the NFL with 126.8 yards rushing per game and QB Jay Schroeder ranked 6th in the NFL with a 90.8 QB rating. In 1992, the Raiders ranked 11th in the NFL with 112.1 yards rushing. In 1993, Oakland ranked 5th in the NFL in passing and 13th in total offense as Robiskie helped QB Jeff Hostetler pass for 3,242 yards and 14 TDs. Robiskie’s 12 years with the Raiders included seven playoff stints, four division titles and a victory over the Redskins in Super Bowl XVIII.

Originally an eighth round selection by Oakland in the 1977 NFL Draft, Robiskie was a four-year letter winner and the 1976 SEC MVP as a senior at LSU. Robiskie spent five years in the NFL as a running back with the Raiders (1977-79) and the Miami Dolphins (1980-81), while playing for legendary coaches John Madden, Don Shula and Tom Flores.

Born November 12, 1954, in New Orleans, Robiskie and his wife, Cynthia, have three sons: Brian, Andrew and Kyle.

So... Think he may be an improvement over McCarthy? Or over Atkins (if he comes in as RB coach)?

He\'s not a \"sexy\" pic for OC , but almost anything has to be better than McCarthy at this point. I never complained about McCarthy\'s system though. It was always his use of it. If TR can come in and use the same system - especially the terminology - so AB and others wont have to learn a whole new one, I\'d be ok with this hire. Experience is a plus in this league and McCarthy didn\'t have it coming and we\'re finding out he isn\'t too great at certain aspects of the OC positiion.

Ummm, yes. Changes are hopefully made to improve the team. I don\'t see this as a big improvement.

I\'ve never heard of a passing game coordinator, but I\'m wondering how that position gets credit for the running backs statistics...

So the assistant running backs coach was responsible for Marcus Allen\'s two Pro Bowls. Ok I\'ll give it to you. But let\'s compare.
1982 - 1984
Marcus Allen 2879 yards 33 TDs
2002 - 2004
Duece McAllister 4103 yards 30 TDs

Upgrade?

Since starting for the Saints, Brooks has never thrown for less than 20 TDs or less than 3500 yards. I\'d say that beats Hostetler\'s numbers listed there. I will say that the fact that Robiskie was in so many playoff appearances is an advantage. A winning attitude is something that mignt be needed here.

Don\'t have to give me anything. I\'m not pimping for TR. Just posting info. I don\'t think the offense is the problem anyway.

sorry -- not intrested in him. There have to be other choices. Even picking a college coach would be better. I want someone who is willing to open up the offense. Someone with fresh ideas that can use the talent we have on offense. I want someone who will get us to score in the 1st quarter

TR seems like a heck of a nice guy, but I\'m not sure he\'s the answer. I\'d rather have McCarthy, especially faced with the possibility of AB having to learn a new offense ... :ohnoes:

And I don\'t even want to HEAR about Paul Hackett now that the J-E-T-S (SUCK, SUCK, SUCK) have shown him the door. It\'s bound to come up, but NO NO NO!!!

And incidentally, NFL.com reports that the J-E-T-S are interested in McCarthy...

Robisky wouldnt surprise me, but it wouldnt make all that much sense as he isnt a west coast guy, and it would be a completely new system with completely new terminology and I fear Brooks\' learning curve is more a sort of straight line. Translation: Rebuilding Year

I am hearing Mike Sheppard being promoted to the new OC spot from my sources. Sheppard was the OC for Buffalo (2001) and San Diego (1997-1998) as well as the QB coach for Seattle before becoming our QB coach in 2002. Apparently he has a good rapport with our players, and is a west coast style coach who knows the terminology and cant be any worse than McCarthy, whom I never had a problem with his plays, only the predictable manor in which they were called lately.
