BOOM - saw a move here but figured he would be out and out released.

I suspect we will find out Grubbs was asked to take a pay cut and wouldn't.

Guys stop taking this at face value.

A "5th round pick" can easily be used to acquire a 2nd or 3rd

8 picks -- WOW. It's 2006 all over again. Payton is definitely out of the doldrums now. This is an exciting rebuild/reload for the team. I want young guys, new guys, fast guys, hungry guys....

I agree. If you look at the NFL in general there is a youth and speed movement. Last year proved that the Saints were not keeping up with the Joneses.

I expect that anyone left after this is all done will have gotten the message.

LOL

I can almost see Sean's head spinning on his shoulders and pulling name plaques off the locker room walls.

LOL

Ali Marpet in the third round...

Wouldn't spend that high on a pick on Collins, not that he isn't a good player...

If Scherff is still there, yes, but not Collins...

Re: GRUBBS TRADED per Adam Schefter

I love Collins but by the sound of the players we are bringing in Scherff wouldn't surprise me in the least.

Chiefs acquire G Ben Grubbs from Saints for 5th-round pick
The Saints had to make drastic changes after last year's debacle. Two days after shockingly trading Jimmy Graham to the Seahawks, Sean Payton dumped off a former Pro Bowl guard to the Chiefs.

Grubbs signed a 5-year, $36 million contract with New Orleans back in March 2012. He had a couple of excellent seasons for the Saints, but fell off in 2014. He wasn't terrible, but he was far from the dominant force who blocked so effectively for Drew Brees. Grubbs just turned 31, so perhaps this downward trend will continue. If so, it's a good thing the Saints are unloading him now. Even though it's just for a fifth-round pick, it's better than getting nothing for him a year from now.

Meanwhile, I can't really blame the Chiefs for taking a shot on Grubbs. Their offensive line was atrocious last year, struggling mightily to block for Alex Smith. Grubbs will definitely be an upgrade, even if he doesn't revert to his former, dominant self. Kansas City probably wouldn't get anything better than two seasons of a mediocre Grubbs in the fifth round, so why not acquire him?

Don't let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya

He never did live up to expectations of replacing Nicks and was way overpaid

Who said this? I'm sorry but even with taken the B&G glasses off, this was a better trade for the Saints

Depending on who we replace him with...but I am happy we got something for him considering we were just going to cut him anyway.

So this is quite off-topic but you'll love Stockholm in the summer. Let me know if you need ideas of what to see, where to eat etc.

exactly, it was better to get a lottery ticket in a draft pick rather than nothing

Wondering if this is Stills' fate too (if the rumor is true), get a draft pick/players OR he's cut

Not proclaiming to have a crystal ball here, but I would have bet on this to be true and here it is...

Former Saints guard Ben Grubbs refused pay cut prior to trade to Chiefs, report says | NOLA.com

Ya know, Payton might draft 2 tackles and turn them into guards. He's done that before. Remember Carl Nicks and Jahri Evans? They were both college tackles. He might even draft 3. Another to replace Byrce Harris.

after last year when Harris saw time at both RT and LT sold me on drafting a OT early in the draft. requirement #1 he must be able to swing. this is the big reason i like the Jake Fisher so much. not only can he play both but he has the skill set to be a start very quickly.

Well technically the best guards in this draft were tackles in college (Scherff and Collins.)

Sounds like he is just asking the question. Something will be done as we need the cap space

Re: GRUBBS TRADED per Adam Schefter

A trade/cut leaves $5mldead money opens $6ml in cap. A post june 1st cut opens $7.5ml leaving $3.5ml in dead money

Re: GRUBBS TRADED per Adam Schefter

Evans will rework or be dealt - don't see a release.

Really think it will be a pay cut
