Saints coach Sean Payton gushed over rising third-year TE Josh Hill at his season-ending press conference, calling Hill "exactly what we're looking for."

The starting tight end job in New Orleans is Hill's to lose following Jimmy Graham's departure. Hill led the Saints in 2014 special teams tackles and has six touchdown catches on 30 career targets. "He's exactly what we're looking for," said Payton with a wide grin, several months before the Graham trade. "Each week you know exactly what you're gonna get. He's talented, he can run, he's young. He's consistent. Those are things that allow you to win." Payton also discussed Hill's eye-opening Pro Day measurables. If your Dynasty league has open offseason waivers, stop what you're doing and pick Hill up.

I fine with this, Brees will help him make the pro bowl just like he did Gates and Graham if Hill does what is asked of him and can get open, Brees always seems to find they open man when he has time to throw which he should get behind this new offensive line that's being put together (please use 13 or 31 on Oline). He's light years ahead of Graham when it comes to blocking so he's a more complete/traditional tight end too.

Hill can be just as good as Graham in this offense. This kid is very underrated. Watch and learn NFL.

I like Hill. He proved to me we can make him into another Jimmy Graham. Or even a more complete Tight End.

Hill will be very effective, but it's asinine to suggest that he's every bit that Jimmy Graham was for us...

He won't be able to body up players as effectively...

But since the Big Mo Contract, Jimmy wasn't doing it as well, either...

But Hill will be effective and we will have plenty bang for the buck with his salary cap number...

One thing the Saints get right - We sure can find UDFA even though we crap our hat with draft picks...

I like Hill

If you look at his big plays though
He got lost in the secondary as other teams teamed up on Jimmy

He wont have that advantage this year


Give Drew some time to spread the ball around including a chip and release by Hill and things will open up

playing time was what he needed. now he has it. lets see what he can do with it. looks promising

now to find a Watson replacement. he is a bit long in tooth. something we can start grooming

Thats my worry at the moment at TE. Watson is a top pro and a great man to have teach TE what they need to do but he has had a few injuries and if i remember a few concussions over the year so id like another TE on the roster.

If you read some old scouting reports on Jeremy Shockey, looks like Josh Hill is pretty much the same guy. That would explain a lot as to why Payton is high on this kid, from the little we have seen of him I am high on him too.

I have said it in other threads allready, I think Hill will have a great season and by week 6 all the talkingheads gonna be like "Hill is why the Saints traded Graham" and "Loomis made a genious move" and a bunch of other hoopla.

One of the reason's why God invented the Mute button, these idiots can say whatever with no repercussions. Last season, I didn't turn the TV on until game time, it did wonders for my blood pressure, will it did until kickoff

He was blasted by several posters herebecause of two drops, one of which was an overthrow.

Probably the same people who jumped at Stills in his first preseason when it looked obvious to me he was trying to do things too quick and just needed to slow down and it would click.

Yeah, but now Hill can get lost with the addition of Spiller. LB's will have to account for Spiller out of the backfield.

LOL..ooooh yes...that failed end around..almost forgot about that. Me personally, I blamed that on the stupid play call not so much Hills fault. Also, for those that blasted him for that, he was a rookie!

Hill has decent hands and good speed for a TE but aside from being a respectable receiving threat I haven't seen much of him as a blocker. Hopefully he can handle all of the assignments that will be asked of him.

We definitely need depth at the position but I am content with Hill as the starter. Teams will definitely sleep on him.

Hill is the better "all around" TE compared to Graham anyway.

I've read somewhere that he is actually a pretty good blocker. It was said he was better than JG at that.

The only thing that bothers me is that Hill is so muscular that he looks tight. If I were coaching him he would stretch two hours a day and become much more flexible. I have been a fan since he was a rookie and I believe he has the talent to get the job done. And yes, he is a good blocker. That alone makes him a better all around TE than Jimmy.

I liked hill a lot. Better blocker and he is coming along in the passing game. Not a Jimmy Graham type threat, but there are not many Jimmy Grahams out there. I think HIll is better for us all around when you factor in blocking.

Is it a done deal that Hill will start over Ben Watson, because he can play too. He was an every down starter on the Pats offense that was the most prolific in NFL history several years ago. Everyone assumes we are gonna draft a TE, but this year's TE class is said to be very weak. There may not be any upgrades in the draft. Two guys I like in the draft are Max Williams from Minnesota and Nick O'Leary from FSU. Both have good hands, though O'Leary may be more of an H-back type.

I think we could do a lot worse than having Hill as our starter

We became too dependant on the "monster mismatch" Jimmy Graham presented, athleticly Jimmy is obviously the better athlete but we don't need Hill to be like that

Be a David Thomas, Jeremy Shockey or even a Billy Miller (anyone remember him) and I'll be happy.

I don't know if many of you have been paying attention. But our TE in 2009 SB was not Jimmy.

We are setting things back to that offense we had then!!! Better OL, speedsters in skill positions. Perhaps an overall better D even.

Yes but you can't play on the top of your game when you key on ONE TE in stead of 9 other players... also when you don't have a center or OL helping you out...

Can't wait to see Brees spread the ball around again, after 2011 it looked like Graham was option 1,2,3 and he would force the ball to him way to much

2012 and 2013 were spread out pretty good. Only 2014 was skewed toward Jimmy, and even then he only got 19% of the receptions.
