The most important thing for 2015
What was the most important thing that was missing from the 2014 iteration of the Saints?
HEART!! How many games did you see last year where it looked like they just didn't care? There was no fire. I think back to the 2007 team that got off to an 0-4 start. It was torture watching that after such a great season in 06 but that team never quit. Payton was out there dropping F bombs and and slapping people up side the head. He even benched his all-pro LT and got in face for all the football world to see. They turned it around and went 8-4 to close out the season 8-8. Last years team was just the opposite. They had multiple chances to lock up a pathetic division and finish with a winning season but no, they got worse when it counted the most. You have to have talent to be successful in the NFL but even more important is the drive to win. It's time to see if Payton can still get that out of this team. He obviously didn't think some of those guys were all in. He probably took a look in the mirror too. Hopefully he can get his own inner fire burning again. If he does that we'll have a team to be proud of again. If not it's just a matter of time till he pulls a Dick Vermiel. |

Heart wasn't the problem. I saw a lot of effort out there.
The problem was focus, leadership and accountability. |

There is nothing good that came out of last season, except that Ingram finally showed up. He was probably the only one on the team that wasn't a tin man.

^^^^ I dont g.a.s. what you call. I didnt see it and apparently others felt the same way. We were in the crappiest division w a boatload of talent and we couldnt pull out the wins when we needed it. Even got swept by the falcons for the first time in I dont know how long.

Re: The most important thing for 2015
the defense was the walking dead
offense i had no real issues with. but 1 they folded under the pressure of having to put points on the board every time they took the field. which is what they need to expect despite the defense. mentally the stress showed. INT fumbles and penlites. mentally they turned to pudding did SP final learn a lesson in 2014 that he should have learned years ago.? as drew goes so do the saints So stop being cute with OL. Unger is a ray of hope |

Re: The most important thing for 2015
In all areas of the game, the most important lesson was that the things that USED to work for the Saints, the things that USED to be our bread and butter, STOPPED WORKING.
Classic case in point was when Lorig got stuffed on 4th and goal against the Bengals; that type of fullback steamroller play used to be our MONEY plays inside the 15 yard line, all the way back to Payton using a bunch of trick plays like that with Mike Karney in the 42-17 rout against Dallas in 2006. That USED to work, now it DOESN'T. So ...lesson is, we gotta do something different. What Got You Here, Won't Get You There. What worked this far, is not gonna get you where you need to go. This is true for everyone from Payton, on down to the waterboy, and even the Bensons. The team has got to roll and evolve and change.... |
Re: The most important thing for 2015
In preseason there was one game where Suneri made about 100 effin tackles. Ok maybe not that many but that one game said a lot to me. There was a lack of effort that started early and it continued, not everybody, but enough where I noticed it. Then reports of players being perpetually late, then other players making comments about the intensity. It was a problem. This recent house cleaning and a big bag of picks should turn that around.
