Old or new, players have to play in the offeason in camp and drills to build chemistry with players. New players to learn the system, old players and new players so they don't start out rested. Pre-season is not enough as starters play maybe a half and mostly less than that in games.

That brings up two points. And its very funny when considering in 2012, Brees held out until close to August before signing a deal. Think that did not affect him early on?

And Graham does the same thing. A deal does not get done until July. Again, Graham did not really get enough time to get ready for the season and it might be why he had more injuries.

And the most important is Byrd. He had back surgery in 2014 offseason and did not join the team until two weeks before the season started. Therefore he had no time to learn stuff, to gel with the team, to get his feet wet. This had a lot to do with why he didn't play well early on. And then he gets hurt week 4 again and misses the season.

Its important for the whole team to be working together in the offseason so they can all be on the same page when the season starts. If I hear that Unger, Browner, Spiller, and/or Ellerbe have some kind of minor injury and will miss most of team activities and not be able to do anything until August, I will not expect them to play at a high level when the season starts.

Don't forget Brees' oblique strain that resulted him watching most of the practices and preseason. Same for Stills who missed early work due to a hammie.

That said, it was the D that really sucked....and other than Byrd, they were heathy.

I don't think that what you're saying is not accurate, I think there is definitely something to it, but I also think a lot of it had to do with us just not giving our best. I didn't see that urgency in our play.

one of the games from 09 that always stood out to me was the Miami game. Here we came out completely flat and looked like utter crap, but we were so good and had such a collection of guys that we turned it on and mid game started laying at a high level. We just didn't have anything like that last year. We had the ability, see the GB game, but we just seemed flat nearly every game

look at from whatever angle you want last year was the most embarrassing season i had as a saints fan. hell the brown bag year was bad but they tried. tried all game long. the were just bad

this defense came out of the tunnel with their tails between there legs cowering and whimpering like the beat pups they were before the game even started.

change the personnel all you want but this slide is over a year and a half old and i am expecting little improvement next despite the massive turn over as long as Rob is the DC. Any improvement in play will be to protect their pay check.

ok I will sit back and watch and pray i am wrong;

Problem is, they drank the Kool-Aid.
We were a superbowl pick prior to the start of the season and they bought it. Defense had a good year the season before and expected to only get better. So when the boat started taking on water, nobody could stop it.

I could tell in preseason they were in trouble. There was a serious lack of effort that transferred over. I understand it's preseason but they looked lazy and flat out tired and looked that way most of the season. We were in desperate need of a house cleaning.

What? No one has mentioned Greenbriar yet? I believe that they came out of camp soft with a feeling of entitlement. I needed a bottle of pepto and a xanex before every game.......and it looked like the whole team was nervous and was taking xanex to keep the jitters down.

I forgot training camp at a freakin 5 star resort. Everyone also thought the QB Olympics was all fun and games at the time but what a distraction. I heard they are going back this year WTH
