Why in the world would anyone think thats why they signed him?

He's a 4th/5th string RB who plays all of the special teams units. Its all he was here and its probably all he'll be in New England.

I'm pretty sure they don't think they just signed Demarco Murray.

Vereen started as a 4/5th running back because they had Faulk when Vereen came along

New England signed him for the same reason he was on this team.

He's a 4th/5th RB who plays special teams well and can contribute as a 3rd down back.

Cadet = special teams. He's too small and not fast enough to be RB - but he can come in as relief in a pinch. I think Loomis and Saints didn't see enough value to sign him. He was replaceable.

Evan Woodberry absolutely correct on twitter

Even had the Saints tendered Walker and Cadet they would have got no comp picks as they both were undrafted. Explains why we didn't bother with Walker as if he got anything over minimum he probably wasnt coming back.

I wish Cadet all the best but he never really made himself a must have.

That statement is why I didn't buy that we had a bad scouting department as much as we had a bad evaluation and decision making process with regards to draft management...
