New Deal for Keenan Lewis

1 Attachment(s)
The New Orleans Saints are $1.7 million under cap after adding the contract of C.J. Spiller and restructuring Keenan Lewis' contract.

An additional $10.4 million of Lewis' contract has been guaranteed, according to a source.

Looks like Keenan did get his way... But it also helps the team clear up some cap space so it's a win/win.

He took the wrong path, but ended up in the right place. We needed him to stay put and be happy

He used the wrong avenue to vent his frustration. That was an error in judgement.

I will not question his heart, motivation and desire to be a Saint.

Re: New Deal for Keenan Lewis

He didn't get his way in terms of what he originally said, which was "I want my contract fully guaranteed". That was just plain stupid of him. Obviously someone gave him the proverbial slap upside the head and got him somewhat off of his high horse.

Speaking publicly was the only mistake he has made since he came here. I really dont think it was about the money but the guarantee he could settle in the area and wasn't getting moved on. Works well for both parties, the love and guarantee for Keenan and the cap room for Loomis.

Im delighted

Me too. Lewis and Browner will create problems for QB's next year.

Aptly put, but I wouldn't be surprised now to see him shipped and we select a cornerback with the 31st pick...

His contract is a bargain compared to the market and he would have gotten much more if we released or traded him. Good deal for everyone and now we can get back to football.

Wait, I thought all the moves were being made without a "plan." Oh yeah, the dart hit Keenan Lewis's picture. Never mind.

I hate how this situation was handled. Loomis has now shown players that if you don't like what they are doing or your contract, you can go cry on social media and get what you want

No... Valuable employees get a little leeway. That's just life. Others who are replaceable will be replaced if they want to try this tactic. It's the same in any business.

His last name isn't Brees so he should of kept his mouth shut. They have shown now that they tolerate players bad mouthing the organization on social media.

he just helped himself get a cash bonus and help us lower cap status, we all win. the guy is the best we've had for a long time, he's not going to grosse tete ; much less to any other nfc south team that were licking there chops.for him to go shopping for new home, bite me clowns

I want him in NO for a long time. He's the man in the secondary right now and I love him.......he will always be the CB that played well on one leg.

Everybody should at least get one chance. I'm sure they had a little meeting and it will not happen again. If Sean can let it go,so should we. Even though he didn't handle it the right way,at least he's shown some heart and isn't some apathetic, lazy player like some of the ones we got rid of. Believe me, after all this, there won't be a single player on that team that will be ballsy enought to test Sean.

I hope there is just to see how Payton reacts, now if they can just find a way to get rid of Gallette and I think all the "twitter whores" will be gone (Graham, Stills)

You're allowed to say what you want. Although I disagree, I'm all for your right to say it. I don't see how anyone gives up their rights to free speech just because they're part of the NFL.

Because they are part of a team, if your labeled a "leader" you have to act like it .... part of the deal of being part of the NFL

It was stupid of him, but he was watching players, good players, get traded, cut, and restructured left and right. A lot of what he said was probably out of fear of the unknown.

Whoa there. This isn't a matter of free speech. It's not like he was going to go to jail over it. The fact is that there is a right way to handle things and a wrong way. He handled it wrong. Not just because he used social media to complain, but his complaints were off base to begin with. We're a team that needed to get better in a lot of areas and didn't have any cap space. That means big moves needed to be made. And yet, he took it personal somehow.

Well as I said in another thread related to this topic, he's making a lot of money for a reason. He IS a good player, and will make his money no matter if it were here or elsewhere. I don't see what there is to fear about that. And it was pretty clear, as Loomis even said as much, that this was about upgrading defense. So why would they trade Keenan? The guy just got too caught up in his emotions and forgot that the team's priority is to win, not to keep friends around to grow old together. I have no doubt it sucks to see your buddies get traded, but that's the business. It isn't new.

In case you didn't notice... I doesn't matter to Sean Payton or Micky Loomis what we think. :bng:

there are also consequences. They have contracts, and I am quite sure there are clauses in there that prevent this sort of thing. There are clauses that prevent them from riding motorcycles etc. You'd be surprised what's in there.

I fully respect Lewis
Good to see someone on the team with heart and a will to win
He just should have addressed it privately

Payton should ban on field celebrations, social media, etc
He should also be a good example himself

As for the gif

Re: New Deal for Keenan Lewis

Details of Lewis' new deal: Lewis still gets $13.05 million over the next three years, and $7.55 million over the next two years. But now he'll make more money up front and have a lot more guaranteed.

Lewis received a $3.9 million signing bonus, a fully guaranteed salary of $850,000 in 2015 and a fully-guaranteed salary of $2.7 million in 2016. Another $3 million of his $4.75 million salary in 2017 is guaranteed for injury only.

Lewis can also receive up to $700,000 in per-game roster bonuses in 2017. And he gets a $50,000 workout bonus each year.

His cap numbers over the next three years will be $4.5 million, $6.35 million and $9.1 million (slightly tweaked from $4.85 million, $7.3 million and $7.8 million under the old deal).

The Saints are now an estimated $1.7 million under the salary cap.
