I don't know why I'm bothering to respond to this, but whatever... Drafting Mariota would be THE worst draft pick in Saints history.

Do we need a QB of the future soon? Yes. But you don't draft a guy that high to sit unless they were actually planning on trading Drew, which I don't believe for a second. It would be bad enough if we had a top 5 pick but considering we'd have to trade lord only knows how much to move up that high... It's not worth it. And we're not talking about a Peyton Manning type of prospect. We're talking about a highly developmental project.

And just on my own observations over the years, I've watched many a "great" QB go through Oregon and do absolutely nothing in the pros. I believe you'd have to go back to Dan Fouts to find the last successful QB in the NFL from that school, and needless to say that was a completely different era. There is this perception that Mariota is different because he won a little more, but I don't see a difference.

Lastly, because it is known that he ran a simple, albeit uptempo offense in college, that makes him just about the worst candidate for our offense. We don't run a gimmick offense. I'm not high at all on Bryce Petty, who seemed to have an awful lot of games were he barely completed 50 percent of passes and threw about 60 times a game, but he'd still be a better fit later in the draft if we are going to draft a QB at all.

If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.
