lol complete nonsense. If you were going to go after Mariota there would've been no reason to make some of the moves we've made. You would've kept graham and stills and just traded brees if you were planning to go after Mariota. To try to move up to get him now at no 2 would be a waste.
If we were getting winston............I "might" entertain this but mariota is simply not that good. I think bryce petty will be better in the long run. |

Not us but I could see the Bucs having a change of heart and get him. Someone in their leadership (if they have any) has to see Winston fits the perfect mold on what it takes to be a disaster in the NFL. He makes Cam Newton look like an angel.

I don't know why I'm bothering to respond to this, but whatever... Drafting Mariota would be THE worst draft pick in Saints history.
Do we need a QB of the future soon? Yes. But you don't draft a guy that high to sit unless they were actually planning on trading Drew, which I don't believe for a second. It would be bad enough if we had a top 5 pick but considering we'd have to trade lord only knows how much to move up that high... It's not worth it. And we're not talking about a Peyton Manning type of prospect. We're talking about a highly developmental project. And just on my own observations over the years, I've watched many a "great" QB go through Oregon and do absolutely nothing in the pros. I believe you'd have to go back to Dan Fouts to find the last successful QB in the NFL from that school, and needless to say that was a completely different era. There is this perception that Mariota is different because he won a little more, but I don't see a difference. Lastly, because it is known that he ran a simple, albeit uptempo offense in college, that makes him just about the worst candidate for our offense. We don't run a gimmick offense. I'm not high at all on Bryce Petty, who seemed to have an awful lot of games were he barely completed 50 percent of passes and threw about 60 times a game, but he'd still be a better fit later in the draft if we are going to draft a QB at all. |

If we drafted Mariota it would easily guarantee us another 7 or below win season
So many other holes to fill and while QB is needed in the future, it's not immediate when we have so many other needs to fill. |

I'm not against drafting a QB to tutor under Drew for the next few years. But I think they'd be stupid to waste two first round draft picks to move up and get any QB in this draft. If they want someone for Brees to mentor a couple of seasons, better wait until next year and take a look at the stock. Mariotta and Winston aren't the answers. I really don't see either of them being a "franchise quarterback". In fact when I hear Mariotta and Winston I think of RGIII and Geno Smith.
The tools are there but they lack the the intangibles. Just my opinion. I'd be surprised if either of them are in the league in 5 years. I could be wrong of course. |

Where do these yahoos get their information? Why do they all want to see the Saints trade Brees next year? Their statements tell me they don't know anything and are pulling it from out of the ass. Drew is the face of the franchise and has more than one good year left. I can't see us trading up to pick Mariota when Bryce Petty would be a better fit and would be available in a later round.

Petty: isn't he #3 QB on most boards? Maybe we'd have to use too high of a pick. Otherwise, I'd like someone to learn under Brees for next year and don't see why UDFA Griffin is the answer. Odds say, no, he isn't.
I like how Taylor Heinicke (Old Dominion), quick release, and his stats. I'd take him in the 5th. Garrentt Grayson (CSU) looks good, too. What I really wish was QB Murray (Georgia) in the 4th last year instead of Fortt. I was so sure we'd take him and then someone (NFL) network said Payton wanted him with our 5th but he went just before. |

Yea. i doubt we will draft a QB early based on the moves we have made this offseason on offense. When you have an aging QB you try to surround him with protection and players that can prolong his career. Up until now Drew has made a lot of no name players look above average. As he ages and as his accuracy declines he is going to need time in the pocket and he is going to need guys playing at skill positions to step up. I see them drafting a WR, a legit #1 in the first if they do go for offense at all.
