The 33-year-old Mathis is still a good player, but his cap hits of $6.5 million this year and $7 million this year appear to be more than Kelly is willing to devote to any guard, even one of the best in the NFL. The flip side is, Mathis has indicated that he thinks he’s underpaid and would like a new contract. So the two sides are clearly far apart in their perceptions of Mathis’s worth.

perfect time to cut him loose and see how tight money is. then swoop in. if he signs else were lets see what player that other team cuts loose.

yikes, that's a lot for a guard at his age, not his current salary per se, but a new contract with MORE money...

I know the name but not much on his play lately. Anyone know if he still has some gas left in the tank. I do mean farts of course :)

If they cut him they only owe him 2 million, so he'd be looking for 4 or 5 elsewhere.
I was hoping Philly was on the hook for more and we could look at him in the 3 million range.
