Dolphins were runner-up for Jimmy Graham
The Jimmy Graham trade from the Saints to the Seahawks shook the NFL world on opening day of the new league year. Apparently, the Seahawks weren’t the only team the Saints talked to about Graham.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Dolphins “finished second” to Seattle as the runner-up in the Graham derby and were “aggressive” in trying to upgrade the tight end spot. Being that the Saints were looking for line help, there’s a chance talks with the Dolphins revolved around contract-year center Mike Pouncey and Miami’s No. 14 overall pick in the upcoming draft. It would have been a steep price to pay, but both Graham and the Dolphins likely would have really enjoyed each other. Graham played football and basketball at the University of Miami, and new football czar Mike Tannenbaum was dead-set on overhauling Ryan Tannehill’s weaponry. Graham would have provided that needed intermediate and red-zone presence for Tannehill. https://nbcprofootballtalk.files.wor...3za.jpeg?w=500 read more |
Re: Dolphins were runner-up for Jimmy Graham
Miami would have been a much better scenario for us.

Re: Dolphins were runner-up for Jimmy Graham
Yeah I have to say I would have felt a lot better watching Graham in a Dolphins uni...

Better scenario for us.. but hey it`s okay either way.

Re: Dolphins were runner-up for Jimmy Graham
I'm sure Unger will be great for us... I like him more than either Pouncey twin. Character-wise the Pouncey's are absolute scumbags. But damn it would've been nice to have the 13th and 14th pick in the first round!

Re: Dolphins were runner-up for Jimmy Graham
Can't blame Seattle. Might as well do it before Wilson cashes in. Their fire sale will look worse than ours.

Re: Dolphins were runner-up for Jimmy Graham
My guess is that the Saints wanted Pouncey and the Dolphins got cold feet

Holy unfounded speculation to generate clicks and spawn forum threads with even more speculation, Batman!

Re: Dolphins were runner-up for Jimmy Graham
Mike Pouncey - hip surgery, bounce back season in a contract year? i think so
plus he is one of the top centers in the NFL. up and coming add those two things together means big contract money. but that 14th pick is tempting. Unger is a bit older and is an elite center in the nfl at a flat rate of 4.5 million for the next two years with no dead money to talk about makes Micky life much easier. it is a safe bet that Pouncey will probably get a bigger contract than 4.5 million with millions in dead money in tow. i think cap won out. finally a move agree i with from a cap stand point. |

Runner up is the first loser.

Quote:
Also Super Bowl VI, Super Bowl XVII, Super Bowl XIX, and Drew Brees which effectively gave the Saints Super Bowl XLIV. :D |
Re: Dolphins were runner-up for Jimmy Graham
This is relevant why? I don't care who was second, all this "What if" So what?

Re: Dolphins were runner-up for Jimmy Graham
Not sure I believe this. You really think Payton would have wanted to put up with Pouncey and all of his baggage. I don't think so. Saints made the deal with the right team.
