Saints plan to get physical with NFC South’s big receivers

1 Attachment(s)
The New Orleans Saints are taking a more hands-on approach to their secondary this year.

As in, they want their cornerbacks to be a lot more physical at the line of scrimmage.

That strategy became pretty obvious when the Saints targeted cornerback Brandon Browner at the start of free agency. The 6-foot-4, 221-pounder has earned a reputation as one of the NFL’s most disruptive press coverage corners during his four years with the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots.

There's no such thing as a bad time to show a cute blonde with bouncing boobies.

Hopefully, SJB & Delvin Breaux will be able to contribute this year with Brandon Browner & Keenan Lewis. Brian Dixon did a good job, he was millimeters or .05 seconds from making huge break ups on passes that were throw at him, after year under his belt things might turn out in his favor. I also think we could end up with Trae Waynes but hopefully it's Vic Beasley

Someone who can tackle and keep up with the slot receivers. That is the weakness in the secondary now. :dunce:

Does anybody remember any other teams in the NFC South that even have WRs?

Trae Waynesis as much of a dream at 13 as Vic. but add Trae to the mix and the saints add a CB that changes everything on the outside. A CB that can run stride for stride with Jones and Ted Ginn dam sweet dram.

but alas

i am still looking for that cat quick, tackling machine at nickel

so far i am liking

Craig Mager Texas St 5114 201 4.44 round 5/6

attitude and aggression just the match made in heaven with this bunch.

Somebody like Golson would be ideal in the slot. Add him to Byrd you teams should be fearing throwing the ball in the centre of thr field

*Senquez Golson, CB, Ole Miss*
Height: 5-8. Weight: 178.*
40 Time: 4.46.*
Projected Round (2015): 3-4.*
3/21/14:*Golson was one of the most dangerous cornerbacks in the nation in 2014. He was an interception machine for the Rebels. Golson showed excellent instincts and ball skills. He was smart with how he baited quarterbacks into throwing picks. Golson had 10 interceptions, the second highest total in the nation. The senior also notched 41 tackles with eight passes broken up. He went on to have a decent week at the Senior Bowl and run well at the Combine. He could be a good nickelback in the NFL.*

Golson recorded 41 tackles with three passes broken up and two interceptions in 2013. He had three interceptions, three passes batted away and 36 tackles while starting six games the

Re: Saints plan to get physical with NFC South’s big receivers

I like all three of these guys and it becomes quickly a pick and choice of secondary traits. splitting hairs.

Charles Gaines issue run support. best CB in the draft jumping underneath routes
Senquez Golson issue man coverage. instincts off the chart
Lorenzo Doss issue not a hitter. smart and quick

Craig Mager is a project sure but he is solid in man coverage and has good quickness. what i really like is this. solid tackler that loves to hit. he is a SS stuck in a CB body when it comes to hitting and tackling. i see corey white aggressiveness but with better coverage skills.

with our two main CB we are bump and run all day. love it.

jam'em slam'em blanket'em and toe tag'em

so i think the nickle and dime guys need to be very strong in this area also. given the play at safety last year and the fact we did not add any one back there. tackling is the top secondary skill set required. both in the run and open field. no shy birds or wrap and tugs if possible

the kid has the right attitude. aggressive hard hitting and loves it plus he can be had probably a round or two later

hell add two in the back half of the draft and i will be happy. depth wise i still see plenty of room for improvement. add 3 from the roster i am looking at. one of the two top dogs go down we are quickly right back were we were last year. ;p

Payton keeps mentioning Delvin Breaux. He says he has good hands and he has size. I'm hoping he is the answer at nickel back. I'm very curious to see what they do with Vaccarro. Could Breaux play strong safety? If he's as good as advertised, he should be starting, right?

Re: Saints plan to get physical with NFC South’s big receivers

Shouldn't we just officially move Vacarro to nickel CB?? We essentially drafted him because he was a strong safety who could play man to man against slot WR's... And that's how we used him to relative success his rookie season. Then we tried to make him a true strong safety last season and it was an utter disaster. The kid is so good at getting physical with those finesse speedy slot receivers. With Lewis, Browner and Vaccaro as our starting CB's in the nickel formation no-one would ever get a clean release running their routes.

I am not big on Vaccarro, especially as a cover guy. He's pretty big and runs a 4.6 40. I guess he could cover some TEs. Vaccarro does play with a nasty attitude and when he hits people they tend to drop quickly. That's when he doesn't take a bad angle. Vaccarro does seem to have good hands so I could see him being a decent strong safety. Maybe a Polamalu type, playing near the line, giving run support, jamming guys and gambling some to pick off underneath routes.

Delvin Breaux i will pray for him once camp opens. that neck reconstruction worries the hell out of me. they have been wanting to do the same thing to my lower back and i would be dam if i will let them do it until the last possible second, much less go out and play football. hats off to him for chasing his dream but i call would call it for what it is. fool hearty

Source: Saints schedule visit with Western Kentucky CB Dalton Patterson - Black and Gold

Quote:

The Saints are taking a look at Western Kentucky cornerback Dalton Patterson.

After getting a look at the New Orleans native, the Saints have scheduled a visit with Patterson for April 17, according to a source.

The 6-foot-3 Patterson took part in Tulane’s pro day last week, where he ran a time of 4.5 seconds in the 40-yard dash, according to Patterson’s Twitter account.

Last year at Western Kentucky, Patterson appeared in 10 games and recorded two tackles. Coming out of high school, due to academic reasons, Patterson started his college career at Arkansas Baptist College. He joined Western Kentucky in 2013.

Over nine games at Arkansas Baptist in 2012, he recorded 25 tackles, forced a fumble, and broke up a pair of passes on defense.

He attended O. Perry Walker College and Preparatory High School in New Orleans.
