New Orleans Saints check out lineman A.J. Cann at South Carolina pro day
1 Attachment(s)
While much of the team's braintrust was in Miami on Wednesday, the New Orleans Saints also had scouts in Columbia, S.C., to work out offensive guard A.J. Cann, according to Yahoo Sports and other reports.
South Carolina's pro day was a relatively quiet affair on Wednesday after running back Marcus Lattimore and defensive end Jadeveon Clowney drew big crowds in recent years. Cann, a 6-foot-3, 313-pound guard, started 51 games for South Carolina and is usually ranked among the top 10 or 12 offensive linemen in the NFL draft. The Saints starting offensive line is probably set for 2015, although the Saints could draft someone like Cann to challenge Tim Lelito for the starting job at left guard and potentially take over for Jahri Evans in 2016. http://imgick.nola.com/home/nola-med...093-mmmain.jpg read more |

"Get rid of"? No.
"Replace with a younger talent next year"? Sure. |
Re: New Orleans Saints check out lineman A.J. Cann at South Carolina pro day
are the saints changing back to a power-scheme again?
To many LT to LG prospect in the draft to go this route IMO. LG and LG only. dude can not swing |

a proven player that is not hyped driven is a solid move. granted i would not be as excited about it at 31 as 44 but i could accept it |

Especially his lack of run support is troublesome, but then again, he's not a bad RT per league standards. |

Many say he's the best guard in the draft. He'll be gone by mid 2nd round at the latest.

I must be the only one who doesn't like him. I hear time and time again that he's our best, and I say that's why we are in such bad shape if he's our best But I'm no line coach not even close. It's when I just zone in on his play, he seems to get beat or not block worth a damn. But I do realize that he is the best we have, if not he would be a backup to someone else. But please draft a replacement. That is all I want from my Christmas list.

ok this is Zach hijacking yet another thread.
OT/OG with the first pick it is then. that's the safest picks in the draft. Zach to back up and Harris to the curb OG by 44 now i believe the saints have drews best interest in mind OG by the end of the third i question it - roll the dice yet again |

second level blocking is a bit of an issue. Not the greatest movement in the phone booth either. not a dancing bear plus many do not think he can switch to RG. LG only place is his pigeon hole for. OC? maybe it maybe all coaching too. that is why i kinda was surprised by it all. second level blocking is huge in zone blocking. that is why i ask if we were switching to power |
Re: New Orleans Saints check out lineman A.J. Cann at South Carolina pro day
A beast that can't block, move or switch. Perfect!

Don't be shocked if this guy is picked at 31. A lot have him the top ranked Guard.

Re: New Orleans Saints check out lineman A.J. Cann at South Carolina pro day
I would like to see the Saints try to get back in the 4th round with a trade of a S or 2 because I feel that gap in the draft will cause us to miss out on a good talent in that round that we will need. Aside from that I don't want to see us trade away any of our picks. Lets face it, we really don't seem to be able to make good trades. Look at the JG trade as a prime example. We could have gotten 2 first rounders for Graham no problem and from multiple teams if we had just stood firm on our demands. Instead we get Unger, granted a top C in the league, and a 1st round pick. That alone would have been a good trade for us and I would have been happy with that, but I still see no need for us to have thrown in a 4th round pick as well. Personally I would have never made that trade. If I would have absolutely had to throw in a draft pick I would have gone no higher than a 5th round pick. I honestly think giving up that 4th rounder is gonna bite us in the end. That having been said, I firmly believe that we need to make every single one of these picks. Why? because as important as this draft is to this team, and as important as it will be to hit and hit big on the players we select, this draft with all of it's picks is going to set the tone of this team for the next 10 years. The nucleus of this team for the next 10 years, is going to come from this draft and that's why it is so important to get this one right.

If we miss on Scherff then I think this guy makes sense at 31. Might be risky to try him at 44. I'm not sold on Lelito, so I'd like to see us go guard early

Why I'll agree that Strief is not pretty to watch, especially on screen passes and bubble route plays, he's not that bad...
But, PFF can shove it if they think he's our best offensive lineman... They need to geaux back to MIT and reformulate their algorithms... |

I've said for years that he is a decent guy to have as depth, but the fact that he starts for us just shows how little priority we put on the RT position. He has improved somewhat and he's not horrible or anything, I just can't agree with all this "he's our best lineman" talk. |
Re: New Orleans Saints check out lineman A.J. Cann at South Carolina pro day
It would be great if Strief could be slid back into his former role as backup at LT and RT along with an occasional tackle eligible.
