How Much Offense Can the Saints Trade for Defense?

First, take a look at a couple of facts I should have included in the original post.

Of the teams with the top ten NFL offenses between 2006 and 2014, all but one have a cumulative winning record. The one team without a winning record is Houston, which is just below .500 for the period. Aside from Houston, the team with the lowest winning percentage (.549) on the list is the Giants, who also have a pair of Super Bowl titles, so they aren’t complaining too much.

Of the teams with the top ten NFL defenses between 2006 and 2014, though, four of them have a cumulative losing record: the third-ranked Jets (.479), seventh-ranked Panthers (.483), ninth-ranked Texans (.486), and tenth-ranked Vikings (.469).1

Adding the above to the fact the Saints are the seventh-best NFL team since 2006 despite their twenty-ninth2 ranked defense gives me the confidence to say the common perception that you can overcome a weakness at quarterback with a good defense is bull****.

In so many words, you can’t, not for any length of time, anyway. The best you can hope for is a fluke season buoyed by a once-or-twice-in-a-lifetime superhuman performance by a non-QB — think Adrian Peterson in 2012 or Darrelle Revis in 2010.

I wouldn't say we are trading offense for defense

We are trying to make the team as a whole more complete by trading the players that either caused a rift in the locker room or looked as though they weren't giving 110% on the field every week.

Once again we are changing the mindset of the team, every player in 2009 knew there was someone on the bench that SP wouldn't be afraid to activate in your place, certain players became too easily satisfied by average success, which attributed to last seasons downfall.

lets see drews
#1 wr gone
#2/3 WR promising up and coming gone

Drew gets a center that can anchor pocket.

well seeing Drew is going to need more time to work with yet another batch of WR i sat the center move was smart. LG is still a mystery.

Time will tell. lets see what the draft brings and see what moves remain.

WR is my #1 concern followed by LG and then back up OT.

We can't lose any more offense.....in fact we need to restock the shelves.

They must feel good about the 6'6" Brandon Coleman and the 6'4" Nick Toon.

That's a lot of height with the speed of Spiller and Cooks on the field at the same time...:bng:

Don't forget Jones. He was raw but still impressed Payton last year.

Cooks will return healthy
Spiller has the potential to be better than Sproles and Bush
Unger provides that interior protection Drew thrives on.
Armstead and Evans should return healthy.
It looked like it started to click for Toon last year
Hill looks to be emerging
KRobinson should return healthy

And you know, without a shred of doubt, that Payton will get a new toy somewhere in this draft. My guess is a mid round TE or WR prospect with huge upside. And I fully expect a stud sleeper RB to sign with us as an UDFA.
