Saints rookie film review: If everything translates, linebacker Davis Tull could prove to be a steal for New Orleans

Davis Tull didn’t belong in the Southern Conference.

Plenty of quality football players pass through that conference, and some even succeed in the NFL. But watching Tull, who starred for Tennessee-Chattanooga, play against that level of competition, it almost seemed unfair.

It became worse in nonconference games, when Tennessee-Chattanooga played the likes of Tennessee Tech. In those games, Tull, who was picked by the Saints in the fifth-round of the NFL draft, almost made a mockery of the proceedings.

Down after down, play after player, he was in the backfield, creating pressure or making life miserable for the quarterback. There’s one play against Tennessee Tech from last season when Tull trucked not one, but two running backs serving in protection and had the quarterback dead-to-rights. The only person who could stop him was a teammate, who tripped and took out his legs.

The performance was stunning. From start to finish, he was in the backfield, making the other players on the field look like props and standees. No one could stop him.

Hopefully the ghost of Greenbrier won't spook him.

It wasn't the restaurant, it was the cooks.

There was NO pass rush last season, none, nothing, nada...

Our linebackers barely registered on the screen...

It starts with the line play on both sides of the ball...

And our front seven on defense has been abyssmal!!!

I just don't understand it. I was so pumped about our D line after 20103 season. The idea of seeing Jordan, Hicks and Jenkins all playing in a Pro Bowl didn't seem far fetched to me. Add Foster and Walker and I was thinking best D'Line in the business. Now they're crap?

No, they aren't crap, they just had a crappy season. Our #2 CB plan failed miserably and we paid a hefty price for it. Cam Jordan apparently read all his headlines instead of working hard.

I suspect this season will be a lot different.

Don't forget the Byrd injury too. That could've had more impact than we give credit for.

Right or wrong, we'll find out this year.

Not trying to be a Debbie Downer, but the tape I saw of Tull didn't impress me at all.

I don't know anything about him but I know for a fact our D cant get much worse especially at LB.

Forget the injury to Jarius Byrd, which would've seemed inevitable from his history in Buffalo...

The most overlooked injuries of the season were DE Glenn Foster (knee), John Jenkins (Pec, Abdomen) and Brodrick Bunkley (leg)...

And you're description of the front seven as "abyssmal" is spot on; and that's why we shouldn't be surprised at the results...

While this may not be a popular opinion, but I don't think we need to commit a big contract to Cam Jordan...

Time to move on if he's going to continue the Will Smith impersonation...

Dominating inferior linemen and balancing those stats against getting his arse handed to him when he faces quality offensive linemen doesn't justify a max contract...

Who can tell the difference of whether Greer was on the team or not? He was never healthy his last couple years. And Harper/Jenkins were terrible. We didn't miss them one bit. It was well documented how much we went away from the aggressiveness that made us successful the year before, and that was the biggest problem. And yeah, losing Byrd almost immediately didn't help any.

lmao the decline on defense started right after the patriots lose in 2013.

Rob did little or no adjustments to correct anything from that point on for the rest of the 2013 season. patriots mapped it out and Rob had no answer

2014 the idiot comes out with exact same defense but with a twist. CB cushions.

now he has added even more of his players to the mix so lets see what happens. our is that the next excuse he will milk for another year? gelling time.

i am expecting the exact same defense as the we have seen fail for a season and half.

stop giving this man all these outs.

Don't let Godhell find out we're stealing.
Actually, there is a real possibility that we get seven steals in this draft. Not to mention our UDFA's that should produce a couple of more steals. Wow! Our roster is getting quite the make over. I'm getting excited.
