Rob Ryan on what went wrong for Saints' D: Himself, missed tackles, third downs
1 Attachment(s)
METAIRIE, La. -- Rob Ryan demanded the blame for the New Orleans Saints' defensive collapse last season in his first interviews since the 2014 season.
Ryan, who spoke during pre-draft shows on WWL radio and the Saints' website last week, also detailed some of the specific problem areas that need to be fixed for a unit that fell from fourth in the NFL in yards allowed in 2013 to 31st in 2014. "Look no further than me because, No. 1, obviously we never got the job done on defense, and that falls on me," Ryan said. "The rest of it, we didn’t tackle near as well as we did the year before. I think we missed the least amount of tackles in a season, and last year we missed the most. That can’t happen. Our third-down defense wasn’t near as good, we weren’t getting off the field. You go from second in the league on third-down defense to however high we were last year, it wasn’t very good. "So we have a lot of work to do. And we’ve got the right people here. We’ve got the right coaches here. And we’re gonna make sure it gets done." Read more: Rob Ryan on what went wrong for New Orleans Saints' defense - New Orleans Saints Blog - ESPN |

Giving up 50+ yards on multiple plays when you know it's coming. That alone costs us 2 games. All I know is this draft, he got a full bag of groceries. Cheese sandwich is not going to cut it.

"Look no further than me"
trust me i don't |
Re: Rob Ryan on what went wrong for Saints' D: Himself, missed tackles, third downs
With the Safeties we have its beyond me that we don't deploy a Seattle type D. In fact with so much hype about a revamped D I was almost assured it was happening.
There box /diamond coverage is pretty awesome and could create havoc with safeties running it. |
Re: Rob Ryan on what went wrong for Saints' D: Himself, missed tackles, third downs
Third downs should have been first on that list. I dont think ive seen so many third and long conversions in one season in my life.

Re: Rob Ryan on what went wrong for Saints' D: Himself, missed tackles, third downs
Let's start by cutting the ten yard cushion by corner backs.

I can forgive the late season debacles when we had practice squad people at 5 starter positions. I can't forgive the early out of the gate disaster we saw with full starters.

Oh, ****... I had forgotten all about our D.C....
Damn... |
Re: Rob Ryan on what went wrong for Saints' D: Himself, missed tackles, third downs
Total fail, he just sits at the top of the defensive pyramid. Each problem on defense made every other problem worse. The whole thing has to be fixed and I like the moves that have been made.

Danno, facts don't faze him. He'll just blow them off and make up reasons to support his own theories.

perhaps you might watch some film of Oakland or Jacksonville! Our offense was very good even though we had O line injuries If you think the offense has to improve and it doesn't matter what we have on defense you don't know much about football |

Re: Rob Ryan on what went wrong for Saints' D: Himself, missed tackles, third downs
The Cleveland game laid out the blueprint for beating our Saints...
Pound the front seven by toting the rock, usually gashing Galette's side who ran himself out of plays trying to make a sack... Blitz, stunt the middle while sitting in zone and wait for a Brees mistake which usually was in a force to Graham... And then let your quarterback, even Brian f***ing Hoyer, be a hero on the final drive against the accommodating Saints defense... |
Re: Rob Ryan on what went wrong for Saints' D: Himself, missed tackles, third downs
Tell you who im interested in watching this preseason.
Kyle Wilson,i know he struggled at times in New York but he is still young and has talent. I cant imagine that Rob didn't speak to Rex about him. The camp battle at CB for the 3rd and 4th Cb should be very interesting |
Re: Rob Ryan on what went wrong for Saints' D: Himself, missed tackles, third downs
Kyle Wilson is a FA piece of toast for sure. but a change could be just what the doctor order

Also looking forward to seeing what Delvin Breaux can bring to the table... And did I mention we drafted PJ Willams, the former NCAA National Championship MVP who had three (3) interceptions in that game! If CB isn't fixed now, it never will be... |

Anyone think all 9 draft picks make the roster? I do.
|
Re: Rob Ryan on what went wrong for Saints' D: Himself, missed tackles, third downs
Between the veteran free agency additions, draft picks, and undrafted rookie free agents signed, it'll sure be tough for Outside Linebackers, Cornerbacks, Defensive Linemen and Safeties...
But Coach Payton has always enjoyed 'competition' as a healthy thing for any organization... |
Re: Rob Ryan on what went wrong for Saints' D: Himself, missed tackles, third downs
My captain obvious statement is that RR's gone after the season if our D finishes in the bottom half of the league

[QUOTE=teddybarexxx;655379]if you think that our offense looked like a superbowl caliber offense then you dont know anything about football. i can give you quite a few examples of games throughout this season that our offense sucked. i can start with our first home game vs. the vikings. scored 14 pts in the first what 6 minutes of the 1st qtr and dont score again till the last few minutes in the 4th, what about the cowboys game where in the first 3 qtrs we were next to nothing. shall i continue?[/QUo
Most NFL games are decided in the final minutes by 7 pts or less. The first Atlanta, Cleveland, Detroit, San Francisco games were lost because of the Defense at the end of the game. You are NOT going to score 45 every week in this league. If our Defense is 10th-15th with last years Offense were in playoffs with a chance to win it all. I will now join the others and put you on ignore |
