ESPN: Dennis Allen on return to Saints, working with Rob Ryan
Dennis Allen on return to New Orleans Saints, working with Rob Ryan - New Orleans Saints Blog - ESPN
METAIRIE, La. -- Dennis Allen deftly handled the question that has been the elephant in the room since he was hired as a senior defensive assistant coach for the New Orleans Saints in January. Allen was asked by WWL radio host Jim Henderson last week about the perception that he is the “defensive coordinator in waiting” in case current coordinator Rob Ryan’s unit struggles again like it did in 2014. “Well, the first thing I’d say is perception’s not reality,” said Allen, who was interviewed for the first time since returning to New Orleans last week in pre-draft shows with WWL radio and the Saints’ website. ...Allen’s interviews got a bit lost in the shuffle since they took place hours before the draft kicked off. But I wanted to circle back to them since Allen's return was arguably as notable as any addition the Saints made later that night. Many sources I’ve talked to about the Allen hire suggested he will have a “calming influence” on the defense and may help bring more structure... This will go down as the most important offseason acquisition for the defense...:bng: |

Thats a good piece. We have a wealth of experience now both in the front office and the coaching staff with the additions of Ireland and Allen.

I'm very excited about his return.
No matter what his role is or will be - I strongly feel that the end result cannot be anything but improved by his presence. |

Am curious if Hagan is soliciting moronic statements from us or the ESPN talking heads... |
Re: ESPN: Dennis Allen on return to Saints, working with Rob Ryan
As I understood it, Hagan was referring to the title of the article - as in Allen commenting on meeting with Ryan.

Our defense is better with him in the fold. And I do believe that our defense is about to get some coaching.

Re: ESPN: Dennis Allen on return to Saints, working with Rob Ryan
Coaching Depth Chart?!?
Found this very interesting, this is the list of the coaching staff from the "Staff" page on the New Orleans Saints Website... Joe Vitt and Dennis Allen are right there under Payton with Ryan a few places down... Are we right to read into this?!? What can be inferred?!? Coaching

I would say The Big Lebowski's (Rob Ryan) seat is hot :red:. He has a lot of weapons (at least on paper) in his arsenal to work with for 2015. Baring any major injuries, we should be in decent shape on D.
Keep it simple Rob ... if not easy transition for Mr. Dennis Allen ;). |
Re: ESPN: Dennis Allen on return to Saints, working with Rob Ryan
What I glean from this is that Rob is x's and o's guy, not a true leader of an entire defensive unit.
And that's fine. Use him to his strengths. If it's apparent that he can't live up to expectations of a top 12-15 unit then he's not worth keeping. |
