The full-season suspension of Saints coach Sean Payton in 2012 suggests that Patriots coach Bill Belichick should have been disciplined in some way for his role in #DeflateGate. So why was SP punished and not BB? Because the NFL was being sued for concussions and needed to send their sacrificial lamb to the slaughter. They're not being sued for underinflated balls.

And we cannot change it.
And it's likely no punishment will ever match the level of unjustness levied by Heir Goodell upon the 2012 & 2013 & 2014 & 2015 New Orleans Saints franchise. That said, I've chosen to move on knowing that one day, somehow, his holiness will crumble under his own ego and vindication will one day arrive in the form of another Lombardi Trophy hoisted from a float as it rolls through the French Quarter. |

I just don't understand why Payton, Loomis and Benson just took the punishments without fighting. I get they didn't have a union to back them up but Payton and Loomis could have filled a lawsuit against Roger and the NFL. Benson was completely silent on the issue. I just don't understand why they just took it lying down. At least the players stood up for themselves.

This. Even if the NFL had had told them to clean up whatever was going on and came back later to find something was still happening there was no reason to take such a harsh penalty without fighting back. And I mean fighting back beyond the appeal.
