Saints release at least two area scouts
Source: Saints release at least two area scouts
Mike Triplett, ESPN Staff Writer METAIRIE, La. -- Now that the NFL draft has passed, the New Orleans Saints are continuing to make over their scouting department. A league source confirmed that at least two college area scouts have been let go. The Saints made some major changes to their scouting department in January -- some by choice and some not. Ryan Pace, who used to oversee both their pro and college personnel departments, left to become general manager of the Chicago Bears. And he took one of two regional scouts, Josh Lucas, with him. The Saints then hired Jeff Ireland as their new assistant general manager, primarily in charge of their college scouting department. And they fired longtime college scouting director Rick Reiprish, who hooked on with the Pittsburgh Steelers last week. The latest moves are believed to be a continuation of that shake-up at a more natural time for making such changes, since this is now the "offseason" for the college scouting cycle. As things shook out, some deficiencies may have come to light... So I could see why it would happen now... Looking forward to see how Jeff Ireland has redone the scouting department... |

Re: Saints release at least two area scouts
I am still surprised we haven't been aggressive bringing in scouts that have shown the ability to find and evaluate talent. The good scouts obviously don't work for us.......yet.

Changes Reportedly Coming For Saints Scouting Department
Currently the Saints have five area scouts listed on their staff page: Brian Adams–second season as an area scout, sixth as member of players personnel dept. Mike Baugh–21st season in NFL, responsible for prospects located in central region. Ryan Hollern–second season as area scout, previously was Combine scout for four years. Joey Vitt, Jr.–first season as area scout, previously was club’s Combine scout for 2 years.:dunce: Terry Wooden–seventh year as area scout, responsible for prospects in western region. Who the area scouts being let go are still undetermined but the moves really aren’t that shocking when you are seeing Jeff Ireland’s name attached. |
