Two months into his time in New Orleans, Max Unger is starting to settle into his new surroundings.

Unger, who initially told a Seattle radio station that he was bummed about being traded away from the Seahawks, has spent the past month or so going through workouts with his new teammates, playing golf with the rest of the offensive line and getting used to his new city.

Any lingering hesitance — understandable given that the Hawaii native had spent all of his time in the contiguous 48 states, both in college at Oregon and in Seattle, in the Pacific Northwest — is gone.

“I’m over all of that,” Unger said. “It’s done with. I’m here, I’m very happy about it and I’m just trying to move forward.”

Well Max, make sure you're doing everything you can as Center to help us win football games and championships; finish out your contract by not missing games and be an elite Center; show honor, dignity for the Saints community and everything will be just fine...

And you'll realize you got the better end of the trade, better city and better fans...

Max Unger has always been that weight around Jeremy Shockey neck in my book. that trade meant we could not draft Max in 2009. I wanted him back then and I was praying the saints would some how trade back and get a second so we could draft him.

no matter we got him now.

he thinks it is bad now wait till August when the humidity kicks in.

Unger, a six-year veteran who is generally regarded as one of the league’s best centers when he’s healthy, finally will get a chance to start working with the rest of the offensive line in earnest as the Saints begin organized team activities Tuesday, but he already has spent some time building a rapport with quarterback Drew Brees.

Botched snaps are rare in the NFL, but that harmony is developed during the offseason. Unger has spent the past three seasons snapping to the sound and timing of Russell Wilson’s voice; now he has to learn Brees’ cadence and rhythms.

With the exception of a few early miscommunications, Unger has gotten a feel for how Brees operates. Now that OTAs have arrived, Unger can start building an on-field rapport with the rest of the offensive line. Off the field and in the weight room, the affable veteran is already one of the guys.

“Max is an awesome dude,” guard Tim Lelito said. “We work out together every day, and we were actually playing out here last Thursday at Zach’s golf tournament, so it was a fun time, just hanging out. We have the same interests and stuff like that. He grew up on a farm in Hawaii; I grew up on a farm in Michigan. So he’s an outdoors-type guy, (and) so am I.”

it's the humidity that will kill you not the heat. wait till he has one of those August days were it 99 and 99 outside. 3pm rain without a cloud in the sky. then the misty just hangs in the air feet off the ground. hot humid and sticky. then you know your in lousiana

Max Unger is a solid pro. Keeps himself in football shape, smart and is big time at his position. Outside of Drew Brees, Max is probably a guy we can count on (production on the field) in 2015. He is a beast.

The only question for Unger is can he stay healthy.

3 Centers in three seasons. Pretty much a revolving door under Payton. Hopefully that ends now.

According to Pro Football Talk Unger played in 67 - 96 games. His injuries have been spread out since he entered the league. Missing approximately 30% of games due to injury is nothing to sneeze at. Its not like it was one bad injury and missed the year because of it.

We all know Unger is a monster of a player. That was never a concern.

Bit misleading stat. Those are only regular season games. He played in 9 more post-season games


2009 - 0 missed games
2010 - 15 missed
2011 - 1 missed
2012 - 0 missed (and played in 2 postseason games)
2013 - 3 missed (also played in 4 post-season games)
2014 - 10 missed (came back for 3 post-season games)

I had heard that he was injury prone since we got him. Thanks for clearing that up Danno. I'm curious what his injuries were. :handguns::handguns:

First was turf toe requiring an operation. Last year was a high ankle sprain from being rolled on.

I didn't want to start another thread so I am announcing my concerns here. It look like the rookie Peat overthrown one of starters on the line. I am stunned who he replace (Jahari Evans) and shocked he is place as a OG. I am not sure if the replacement have anything to due with injury or if it's permanent

According to that Peat has taken over Grubbs old spot and Lelito is in place of Evans; Evans is the RG not the left
