New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton spoke with media Thursday (May 28) after an OTA practice session. Here is what he said, as provided by the Saints...

How much does it help Jairus Byrd to be able to participate in OTAs?

"I think it is significant. He is in good shape now and working through. There are still some maintenance things he is doing with his knee and yet to get out here, for all of these guys, but specifically a player like him (it's important). The message this morning in the meeting was we are preparing mentally with alignments, there are some conditioning elements to what we are doing this time of the year, obviously that is important, but it is to allow ourselves to be better prepared when we put the pads on and get into training camp. I think it is also beneficial to the other 10 guys when you are talking about a veteran playing like him with regards to calls, with regards to communication and leadership."

...What is Junior Galette's status on any disciplinary action and have you seen any difference in him in the meeting room and on the field?

"There is no status update and none that I am aware of. I would know if there was. With regards to his preparation, he has been good, focused. I think he is in shape and going through this program like everyone else. But really there would be no news."...

...How much have you seen Brandon Coleman and Seantavius Jones grow over the year?

"Those guys had a real good rookie season as practice squad players. They were guys that did not miss a beat. They didn't miss practice. They worked real hard this offseason and so it is good to see them out there running around and making some plays but they are both dedicated, physical, young talented players that just need snaps."...

Can you talk about Stephone Anthony and his interception today?

"I was back behind the defense on that play. He did a good job getting to his hook zone and timed it pretty well. He is doing well. There is a lot going on with these young players. They are digesting a lot now that they are kind of into the regular mode with the veteran players. But I think they have handled it well. So far it has been a good young group. They are pretty mature and pretty focused to what they want to do. I think they also understand that this time of the year is getting themselves ready for when the pads come on."

A lot of people describe Dennis Allen as a calming influence, an organizational guy, a teacher, is that accurate and is that something you were seeking?

"It is accurate. I would say he has a presence about him. He is a real sharp coach. I would say he is a real good teacher and because I have worked with him it was an easy fit to see and just to know what you were getting exactly. Those guys have been working well defensively and he is a good addition for us."

Very inspiring to read that. After reading this and other notes from today I am excited. We are stacked at essentially every position and going into the year to fix the debacle of last year. Lord at least I sure hope so.

It is abit concerning Byrd is still having some kind of maintenance issues on a knee (I thought it was his back last year). I also read where Mr. CJ Spiller had the dropsies at practice today.

Another report by Underhill was that Vaccaro TORE his hamstring in Week 1. That is BIG NEWS of why he played like he did last year. Coming off a broke ankle and then tear a hammy. Damn.

This ^^^^. Promising to hear. Maybe this is why the Saints front office brass didn't "reach" for a WR early on in this year's draft. Sean truly believes & trust that these young guys will step up and help the ball club win games in 2015.

who is that? ohhhh SJB. :whatever: lets see what the season brings. sales pitches on a second round pick that got beat out by UDFA on a depleted secondary needs more than a sales pitch at this point.

I have not given up hope I new what we were getting and knew we reached in the draft with a very long stick for him. but dammmmm that was bad. :brood:

It was like test drive your dream car and it is all you could want but needs minor touch ups. On the way home the rear freezes up and the transmission seizes up. but what the heck it looks good up on blocks. ;)

Drafting two cornerbacks as we have and signing Brandon Browner, plus the layoffs in the front office/scouting department...

Bet it's all connected and fall-out that came to a head with SJB...

That doesn't explain some of those bone-headed plays like the he pulled in the Pittsburgh game...

He has as an opportunity to upgrade what has been a serious weakness on defense for us for some time and he's blowing it...

We'll see what he's about this season, but I wouldn't make any sacrifices re-signing him...
