Jermaine Gresham
Now this would be a move I could see happening. Everyone loves Josh Hill's potential but Ben Watson is at the end of his career and pretty limited. It would be nice to have some more veteran competition instead of nobodies like Orson Charles and whoever the UDFA TE's are. |
Re: Jermaine Gresham
Looks more like a TE who has been converted to WR. :goodidea:

Yes please.

Re: Jermaine Gresham
Pass.
Inconsistent player. A head case. Too many injuries. Too many for even Sean Payton to take a chance with. We're only kicking tires because Payton is buds with Marvin Lewis. |
Re: Jermaine Gresham
Not sure Jermaine Gresham would be happy possibly being a #3 TE. He would provide much needed depth but not a fan if more than vet min.

Re: Jermaine Gresham
Gresham is better then both of our TE's. He's had inconsistent QB's.

Re: Jermaine Gresham
I haven't yet figured out what potential people think they see in Josh Hill. I STILL have no clue when he even got here. All I remember is him showing up on -of all things- a 4th down play a couple years ago and dropping the pass. I had never heard of him and couldn't believe he would even be on the field for that kind of play. He proceeded to drop many more after that game.
Last year, he catches a couple touchdowns and suddenly he's a star in the making in people's minds. I'd love it to be so, but I'm afraid his ceiling is something of an Eric Johnson type player, with less reliable hands. As for Gresham, he was a big play guy in college and remember him well from that time, but he never could stay healthy and has been nothing in the NFL. He'll catch an occasional touchdown, but again, that means nothing. Offensive linemen catch TD's sometimes, too. |
Re: Jermaine Gresham
Jermaine Gresham had 5 tds on 62 catches and 460 yards as a #1 in 2014
Josh Hill had 5 tds on 14 catches and 176 yards as a #3 TE in 2014 Potential is there for Hill. I say give him a chance. |
Re: Jermaine Gresham
The former first-round pick completed his fifth season, averaging 56 receptions with 544 yards receiving per season and 24 combined touchdowns -- the last of which featured his third offensive coordinator within a system that's limited in passing game progressions.
Bengals TE Jermaine Gresham still dealing with back injury - Cincy Jungle at this point i say solid option. given the state of our WR and its uncertainty |
Re: Jermaine Gresham
Didn't he have offseason back surgery?

Re: Jermaine Gresham
"He's a man of many, many, many, many, many, many moods,"
- Marvin Lewis Fumbles, dropped passes and injuries marred what could have been a stellar first five years of his career. Sure, Gresham has been to the Pro Bowl, but that's not what Bengals fans immediately associate with him. Before anything else they highlight the two cut off routes he had last season that cost the Bengals at least one touchdown. They also bring up his 11 total fumbles, and untimely drops like the two that came in the wild-card round playoff loss at Houston after the 2012 season. "He's had inconsistent play, but he's played at a high level," Lewis said. "He's a Pro Bowl player." And you're balsting Josh Hill????? |

Re: Jermaine Gresham
Ok, now that I've said all that....
Josh Hill (RFA) and Ben Watson (UFA) are free agents in 2016. We'll need a young talent at TE. Gresham's a dynamic playmaker, nearly elite blocker and at just 26 years old, he's also in the prime of his career. IF his head is on straight, there is a way this could make sense... but only under these conditions: - A contract loaded with incentives tied to playing time - Small signing bonus - Very little money in 2015 - Very little guaranteed - Joe Morgan clause (you're a dikk, you're gone) I don't think Gresham will be healthy enough to play football at the start of the season (similar surgery as Byrd's in 2013) so I wouldn't expect anything to happen right away but IF we sign him it should be: 4 years, $12 million $4 million guaranteed $500k in 2015 $800k signing bonus |
Re: Jermaine Gresham
I think it's a decent upside move if the price is right. He's an athletic guy who, if the back injury is resolved, could be a solid contributor.
Don't misread Hill's production as anything more than he was the least interesting guy to cover on those plays. Hill wasn't lining up as the primary, secondary or even tertiary threat on those plays. He was the beneficiary of coverage going elsewhere and capitalized on that mismatch. He sees #1 safety coverage all day and we may not see that same explosive handful of plays. Gresham would be a good add if the price is cheap. |

And I'll add (after watching film) that Gresham is more of a big wideout who can block his tail off more than a traditional TE. Mis-match city. Where Sean Payton is Mayor. |
Re: Jermaine Gresham
He probably wants too many $... tell him to suck it.
|
Re: Jermaine Gresham
If the price is right he's got experience and was once a first rounder. Someone saw something special in him and maybe coach can bring that out.
|
Re: Jermaine Gresham
Gresham is solid player. He can be very good in our system. He can't ask too much money. back surgery is always a concern though...

I'm not saying there is absolutely no potential there (though I am saying that I don't see it right now) but the TD's don't mean a lot to me. I don't have much interest in Gresham, but it's hard to compare him to Josh Hill when you consider the offenses and the QB's, especially. Gresham seems to get hurt a lot as well. |
Re: Jermaine Gresham
if he fits they will sign him.

When healthy, Gresham is a monster. Wouldn't surprise me that once he is cleared by doctors/medical officials, he will be signed in N O. This has Sean Payton written all over it.

Re: Jermaine Gresham
First off I'm concerned about his coaches comments. Very worried. We don't need a head case, distraction or diva in the locker room. Especially this offseason. However, the talent is there and he looks to be a good fit in a Sean Payton offense. Especially as a blocker. So, I have mixed emotions about Signing Gresham to a contract.

Marvin is usually a very positive person and feels that supporting former players, teammates, coworkers yields positive return karma... I would definitely give pause after reading those things about Gresham... We always want to improve the team, but ask yourselves - Is his skill set so unique and elevated that it's worth tacking on any baggage, drama that we just shipped out of here in the offseason?!? |
Re: Jermaine Gresham
Sean is the man who cleaned house to get rid of all the bullshyt...if he thinks it's a good idea to sign Gresham, who are we to worry about it? Sign him to a one year deal and if he starts to act a fool, get rid of him. I think he's worth taking a chance on. We could do a lot worse...
