Brandon Coleman shining in OTA's
I really like to hear this news considering our options at WR!!
New Orleans Saints wide receiver Brandon Coleman has made the exact opposite impression on me through two weeks of organized team activities than he had all offseason going into 2014. Last year, Coleman struggled with the offense and consistency catching the football was nonexistent. Both of those facets have improved dramatically during the first two weeks of OTAs. Coleman came up with several receptions Thursday during first-team drills to drive the point home. Coleman nabbed a deep ball from Drew Brees as safety Kenny Vaccaro lost him coming off the line as an inside receiver. Coleman picked up another nice reception on a back shoulder throw from rookie Garrett Grayson with cornerback Kyle Wilson in coverage. Coleman's most impressive play wasn't his flashiest. The Saints wideout outmaneuvered Keenan Lewis in one-on-one coverage on a crossing route to pick up another pass connection with Brees. "The first thing we evaluate is does the player know what to do," Saints coach Sean Payton said after Thursday's practice. "Those guys in their second year are getting aligned quicker. "If you know what to do, it's a lot easier or you have a lot better chance of doing it than if you're struggling getting in and out of the huddle and what route you have. They're playing with the knowledge of the offense and you can see that in their play." It's very early, but no longer does Coleman appear to be just some 6-foot-6 guy you're hoping can become something. He's getting past that point with each practice. I'm hearing Seantavious Jones is also kicking butt as well.

The competition for starting spots isn't huge so I'm glad to hear they are both making the most of the snaps they are getting! |

On the link it said Vaccaro made a really good defensive play to bat the ball away from Ben Watson the play before he got beat! |
Re: Brandon Coleman shining in OTA's
Here's to hoping it'll carry over to when they take things up to full contact - Nick Toon also needs to finally step up or it'll be the end for his career with the Saints and probably the NFL.

Re: Brandon Coleman shining in OTA's
Yeah and Arrington and Toon always looked great as well. It's a good sign for sure, but don't climax just yet.

Re: Brandon Coleman shining in OTA's
Coleman? the talent was always there just were is his head? many had him as a top targeted priority UDFA last year. then again quickly name the QB at Rutgers when he played. as a matter of fact name any QB from Rutgers without looking it up.
Last year was his senior season. Jr year Knee injury slowed him up. he should have stayed in school. he could be our next big possession WR. but as many have said, I will wait on this news also. year in and year out we get sold a bill of gods on 1 or 2 of the WR prospects only to end the year saying maybe next year. |
Re: Brandon Coleman shining in OTA's
It's not even training camp, but this news is better than what we used to get...
Cautiously optimistic... |

Let's revisit this topic when BC is in full competition battles with pads on. I'm with JP .. cautiously optimistic here.

Re: Brandon Coleman shining in OTA's
When your competition is yourself, you only have yourself to blame if you don't make it. :)

How often does OTA success translate to regular season?

Re: Brandon Coleman shining in OTA's
I will get excited when they put the pads on. Receivers always have the upper hand when they are running drills.
I hope these guys shine because we need at least one of them to step up big time. The thing we will miss most about Graham is the double coverage he drew. Even more so than his receiving skills which signifigantly declined. We need someone to keep DBs honest. |

Um.......wait and see.
