FINS LOOKING TO STOCKPILE PICKS
Although there have been rumblings that the Dolphins might try to swing a trade with the Chiefs for late-blooming running back Larry Johnson, we're hearing that the Fins aren't looking to acquire veteran players via trade.
Instead, word is that the Dolphins are hoping to use some of their own veterans as bait for more draft picks, which then would be used to help coach Nick Saban rebuild the roster.
Another motivation for shopping some of their veterans is a projected eight-figure salary cap bulge, which could require the team to dump some players, getting nothing in return.

----anyone for a mckenzie/sam madison duo? that would actually be quite impressive. boards even have them shopping zach thomas. though getting long in tooth i think the veteran leadership and experience would be a good fit with our toddler LBs. courtney could adapt well to outside and learn from thomas while he bulks up for the middle in another yr or two. a 2nd for madison? 3rd or 4th for thomas?

to fantasize, bring them both in with bates dc-ing. they could be psuedo teachers of the new system with him. as poor as the fins were last year the defense was still 8th in the league and always had that sharp aggressive look. they lost 5 games in which they gave up 20pts or less.

it depends on how high of picks your talking about.

first mention of any saints scouting i have heard...

John Murphy of Next Level Scouting provided us with all his notes from one of the premier scouting events of the offseason, including a glowing review of LSU CB Corey Webster (pictured). The Saints were in full force at the Senior Bowl, with nearly their entire scouting department on hand to scout out the Saints\' 2005 Draft Class.

I\'e heard nothing good about webster-nor seen him do much in the lsu games I saw-i hope to everything that we don\'t pick him on the first day.

Baronm... he was injured for most of the year. Just remember how he performed pre-injury, he was considered a sure top 15 pick last year.

Webster has the skills and shape to be a very good corner, and he came off an outstanding junior season. But things have seemed to gone downhill from there. I\'m not sure what to think of the guy at this point. Had a average senior season, and a dreadful North/South Bowl outing.
If the Phins are willing to part with Thomas for a 3rd or 4th, which I personally doubt they would, you make that trade. Don\'t tell me about his age either, I\'m fully aware of how old he is, he\'s also a tackling machine and the heart of a very good defense.

this is a pretty deep draft class for cb. i think a good value one might end up being available for the 2nd pick. if not webster, brandon browner perhaps.

there is also some really good cb from smaller schools, and one guy from vandy that really intrigues me

Webster will probably be nothing more than a good nickel back, which i think is worth a second as more teams are using 3+ Wr sets.

here\'s one of the strongest comments i have come across reviewing the qb prospects-

Dan Orlovsky- Uconn
- Orlovsky has been an unknown by the casual fan, but is well known by scouts. He’s a big quarterback with a strong arm and great poise. He hasn’t put up amazing numbers, but he’s efficient and will get looks in the 2nd or 3rd round. With Miami, San Francisco, Green Bay, Arizona, Seattle, New Orleans and Kansas City all locks to look for quarterbacks, Orlovsky will start to get more interest the closer we get to the draft.
Our bet: New Orleans. Aaron Brooks will be ran out of town once free agency starts and unless a new coach comes in and keeps him, they’ll be looking for a quarterback early in the draft. Orlovksy has a big arm and will be able to get the ball downfield to the Saints receivers.

Did u see the Senior Bowl practices, he was horrible, which is probably why we will have a chance to take him in rd 7.

im not willing to start a rookie this year. let arron stay for one more and we can draft a qb to take over after this year. if were going to get rid of arron then i\'d prefer to get warner as the starter and draft a rookie to sit the enitre year

Draft buzz: The Saints likely will follow past form and take the best player available with the No. 16 spot. If they can get a dominant linebacker or cornerback, say Johnson or Antrel Rolle (Miami), then they\'ll certainly pull the trigger. If not, they\'ll probably make the safe pick on an offensive tackle. Left tackle Wayne Gandy is on the down side of his career, and right tackle Victor Riley likely will be allowed to leave as a free agent. Jon Stinchcomb, the club\'s 2003 second-round pick, will get a chance to prove himself at both spots this offseason. But some in the organization believe Stinchcomb might be best suited to play guard. A back-up running back is also on the agenda.

if we draft any QB this year i\'ll slit my wrists... well, maybe alex smith, but he\'ll be gone for sure... i would rather but up with leon for one more season than to start over with any QB in this weak QB draft.

not bs but some draft guru who had some sorta insight, said n.o. is seriously researching alex smith, qb, utah. not a prediction but just that they were really doing a lot of calling to utah for more info. interesting i thought.

i read more n more that sf and mia both want to trade down. aaron rodgers seems to be moving down in most folks estimation too.

I\'m thinking that Oakland could make a trade to get up to number one or two to get Cedrick Benson. After all, Norv Turner is the coach and he loves to install a power running game. Last year they were the worst rushing offense in the league.

that makes good sense turbo. fits for both of them. if you are saban and would be happy with cadillac or brown plus pick up a pick why not?

read it here first... the best running back of the three will be....ronnie brown..... i called the whole manning/rivers/roethlisberger fiasco last year, predicting \'berger would be the best qb from that years class... i am confident with this pick also...

I am not gonna sya Ben is the best yet, considering Eli was 3 points and a decen defense from leading the terrible Giants in a victory against the dominating Steelers. Ben was pretty much put into the best situation a rookie has probably ever seen as an NFL QB. HE barely had to throw 20 passes a game. It is too early to call him the best of that class even though he had the best season.

chRxis 02-10-2005 10:39 AM

I apologize if I misunderstood this, but the statement \"predicting berger would be the best from this class\" leads me to believe you think it is a done deal. You are right it is just a prediction, I guess I was just trying to get a basis on what you were drawing it on. No worries.

Yeah, you\'re a freakin genius. You and about half of the ESPN staff and about 100 websites \"predicted\" that whole scenario. Now, you and about every person who talks about the draft says that Ronnie Brown will end up being the best suited back for the NFL.

If Porter does leave the Raiders it could have an impact on the team\'s 2005 draft beyond the fact that he is Oakland\'s only proven receiver. The Raiders, who have 7th pick overall at this year\'s draft, have been widely expected to take a RB like Carnell Williams or Ronnie Brown, both of Auburn, with that #1 pick, however, if Porter leaves, the Raiders may use his \'cap slot\' to pursue New York Jets UFA RB LaMont Jordan. Obviously if he Raiders can sign Jordan, they\'d be then free to use the 7th pick on a WR like Mike Williams of Southern Cal, or possibly a defensive lineman like Dan Cody of Oklahoma, Erasmus James of Wisconsin or Marcus Spears of LSU.

well turbo this is my basis for statement... the fact that ronnie brown doesn\'t have the wear nor the tear that c. williams nor c. benson have is a major reason i say that.... brown is probably the fastest of the three and the biggest to boot...

cadillac and brown split time pretty evenly as far as wear. i\'d take cadillac in a race too.

good article on texans draft outlook-
Quote:

First and foremost, the Texans must find a way to protect their quarterback and get to the opponent\'s quarterback. They didn\'t do either well last season...

cadillac also was a kick returner..i think that may be what he\'s talking about.

brown is a better posession back than williams-to me the best comparrison btw the two is brown is like emmett smith and cadillac is like barry sanders...you can\'t really go wrong either way.

these guys are going to be the best RB\'s in the draft..forget benson.
