Delvin Breaux shines at cornerback during Saints' OTA session

1 Attachment(s)
There's been a clamoring from some New Orleans Saints fans wondering how well local product Delvin Breaux has performed at cornerback during these organized team activity sessions.

To say fans' hopes are high for Breaux wouldn't do the public outcry enough justice.

Breaux received a chance to run with the first-team defense during Wednesday's OTA practice as Brandon Browner sat out. It's only one session of one OTA, but Breaux displayed the kind of promise that initially piqued fans' interest.

The McDonogh 35 product had a highlight-filled day with an interception and numerous pass breakups, mostly against Drew Brees.

New Orleans Saints rookie cornerback Delvin Breaux goes by "Chip" to his friends.

After a one-handed interception in an organized team activity on Wednesday, his new teammates know the name, too.

"I told them they could start calling me Chip. That's my nickname. They were like, 'Yeah, we can do that now. You made a couple of plays today,'" Breaux said after the practice.

A native of New Orleans, Breaux played in the Canadian Football League before signing with the Saints in January.

Breaux said he picked up the nickname when he played little league ball at the Harrell Playground in New Orleans.

"My brother and I are light skin and dark skin. So they called me 'Chocolate Chip' and they called him 'Butterscotch,'" Breaux said.

After great day at OTA, Delvin Breaux's teammates can now call him 'Chip' | NOLA.com

I could honestly see Breaux taking over the #2 CB spot sooner rather than later. Browner will be 31 when the season starts and when was the last time he played a full 16 game season? 2011? I know suspensions played a part in that but still... The guys a penalty machine as well. I have a good feeling about Breaux.

Breaux could be the X factor. CB is the place we really could use a couple of ballers to help turn the D around. Now all we need is Hau and David Tull to help the pass rush . Anthony should give us a ILB that can cover. Lots of IFs .Man we really need these guys to help on the defensive side. Jenkins and Vaccaro need to get over the sophomore slumps. Byrd needs to play up to his contract.

If the saints by the end of the year are able to not need Browner as a number 2 CB and are free to match him up anywhere the saints are sitting pretty darn good.

PJ has one flaw in his game that he must correct. He is not the greatest against inside moves.

Swann is an interesting pick but were will he end up

Breaux is a mystery and would be a great surprise.

this will be a fun year at CB with all these solid young pups.

I'm rooting for Breaux. The Saints are trying to get deep in the secondary like Seattle. Next thing you know we'll be running cover 1 and letting Byrd play like Earl Thomas mixed with some Cover 3, but with Browner over the TE and Vacarro playing a short zone.

And I just noticed Breaux is only 6 months older than SJB.

He's just now entering his prime age.

Breaux will be the next Tanner or insert name of whatever camp "beast" from the last 15 years, he will look great in preseason only to not make the team. If I'm wrong I like my crow blacken with a side of rice and hot sauce

We all ate crow last year. I remember having a grin on my face knowing the D was going to make us money. All we kept getting were IOU's. I got real suspicious though in PS when the effort was not there. I think we may have a good secondary but no way to tell truly at this point. Breux looks to be hungry to prove himself which we desperately need. Hopefully others feed off it.

RC,
It all starts July 30: First 2015 Training Camp Practice.
Let's see how the kid progresses at that time. Based on OTA reports, he at least has the tools to compete. Yes, he could flop however he could also explode and have success here at corner.

Trust and believe :bng:.

If LSU wanted him pre inury, we know he's the real deal. That's DBU. I'm excited about him. I'm excited in general. Kikiha and Anthony? Man.

Like any other fowl you need to remove the feathers before roasting. Also, make sure the crow is fully cooked. A thermometer is recommended. No one needs digestive problems.

Just sayin'. :chef:
