Saints secondary confident this group won’t be as easily as exploited as last year
 

It isn’t a secret the Saints had issues at cornerback last season.

There wasn’t enough depth or talent. Fans at home could see it. The players on the field could feel it. And the teams facing New Orleans tried to expose it.

“I feel like last year, a lot of teams tried to expose us by bringing a five-receiver set,” cornerback Keenan Lewis said.

The personnel wasn’t there to combat it. After Champ Bailey went down and Patrick Robinson struggled on the outside, the Saints struggled to find the personnel to fill out their base defense, let alone nickel and dime packages.

The numbers illustrate these struggles. New Orleans gave up 79.9 yards per game to No. 1 receivers, 55.6 to No. 2 receivers, and 40.9 to all other receivers, according to Football Outsiders. For the sake of reference, the Seattle Seahawks surrendered 41.2 yards per game to No. 1 receivers, 45.3 to No. 2 receivers, and 32.1 to all other receivers.

Tried to expose? Tried? I dare say most teams were pretty damn successful at exposing the D.

Jam 'em baby! Jam 'em hard at the line. We've also got CB's that can cover smaller fast guys. It's a nice blend of talent and size. Looking good so far. Now let's get the pads on and get through camp healthy.

standing at mid field after getting your jock faked off should be motivation enough. that and rob not making players do things they can not handle helps.

Press man is fine, but if you don't have a solid pass rush its an easy TD most of the time.

Strongly disagree with that. Safety has to be good enough not to lose over the top. We played loose all last year and got torn apart because of it.

A better pass rush always helps but I have never been a fan of playing loose, QBs are too good now to give WRs that much space to play with.
