Did ESPN Try to Defame Saints LB Ronald Powell?
 

As reported first by Saints Beat Writer Evan Woodberry of NOLA.com / The Times-Picayune, yesterday morning in a report written by ESPN Staff Writer Paula Lavigne that aired on ESPN’s “Outside the Lines” about preferential treatment for college athletes; Saints 2nd year LB Ronald Powell may have become the latest.

The report said that Powell was let go by Gainsville, Florida police after finding cocaine in his car — a potential felony — during an incident that occurred last July prior to the Saints reporting to Training Camp at Greenbrier; just a few months after Powell was drafted in early May of 2014.

Powell was not charged with a crime or arrested for the incident described in the report.

As part of the investigation, ESPN requested police reports from 2009 to 2014 from 10 major universities.
