Galette leaves Saints with plenty of cash, Saints brace for cap hit
APFormer Saints linebacker Junior Galette claims that cutting him was the biggest mistake the team ever made. Signing him to a new contract last year may have been a bigger mistake. And renegotiating the deal in March may have compounded it. Per a source with knowledge of the contract, the Saints gave Galette $3.5 million to sign last September, along with a $750,000 salary for 2014. Posted by Mike Florio on July 24, 2015, 5:24 PM EDT https://nbcprofootballtalk.files.wor...ette.jpg?w=250 Then came the time to make a decision, in March. With a $12.5 million roster bonus due on the third day of the league year and a looming cap number of $15.45 million, the Saints converted the payment to a signing bonus instead of cutting or trading Galette. He also has a fully-guaranteed base salary of $1.25 million for 2015. At the time, he’d been arrested for battery in January, but the charges had been dropped in late February. Since then, however, a disturbing video has emerged of Galette in a 2013 beach brawl. The images include Galette hitting a woman in the face with a belt. The Saints have committed a total of $18 million to Galette since September. With Galette not suspended and with Galette not retiring, it will be difficult if not impossible to recoup any of the money. The only hope would be to gain credit for the 2015 base salary if Galette signs with someone else. As it currently stands, the Saints will carry a cap charge of $5.45 million for Galette in 2015. Next year, a total of $12.1 million in dead money hits the cap in 2016. Those figures say plenty about had quickly the team’s position on Galette changed. It also shows that the Saints likely never will regret cutting him as much as they regret paying him. Twice. Galette leaves Saints with plenty of cash, Saints brace for cap hit | ProFootballTalk |

So if he signs in Atlanta for vet. minimum would that be the only money we could get back?

Compared to the $15+ million in bonus money, the $1.25 million offset is chump change. SFIAH |

If he's found guilty on any of the allegations maybe we can get some back...

Re: Galette leaves Saints with plenty of cash, Saints brace for cap hit
Junior calls Payton a "traitor" for releasing him and criticizes the Saints for "kicking him while he's down". He is truly a POS that obviously accepts no accountability or responsibility for his actions. GTFO of New Orleans Galette!

this is a great example of the changing NFL and player behavior.
contracts must have a "BAD BOY" clause built into them from here on out. Greg Hardy did not play last year but the Panthers had to pay him. who got screwed in that deal? If Jr gets nailed and suspended he will still get paid. This is just ethical wrong. then again guilty before a trial is also. But just cutting a player because he does not fit in? pay the man. |

That deal was done before he went crazy. Crazy is hard to predict but it's not hard to predict what happens with someone like that on the team. Losing a defensive co-captain on one of the worse squads last year, yeah I don't think Coach will lose much sleep.

Time to go with the 100% pay for performance structure
Everybody starts a million and then add in the escalators |

Remember in 2010 preseason when Junior was a fan favourite because of his Non Stop football motor
How times change right! Good riddance, he's claiming it us that's kicking him whilst he's down? Did the organisation tell you to hit a woman with a belt whilst your friends videod, or shout F### Sean Payton on video? Did this to yourself! |
