Spencer is proving me wrong. I thought he was washed up, but he is playing very well.

Hope we are clearing out the cobwebs with these penalties.

Hope those 6 injured players are just banged up a bit and nothing serious.

Hard to put much stock in a preseason game. The level of suckery was high, particularly for the 1st team on O and D.

It looked (sadly) a lot like last year with new names on jerseys.

But it's preseason...

The only concern I have are the injuries.

Browner
Ellerbe
Bro

All very important to the D and I think at least one of them is going to IR.

The Big Lebowski (Rob Ryan) needs to dig a little deeper in that playbook and find a way to stop those 4th and 15 conversions.

I hope I'm wrong but we will need a small miracle for this guy to stay healthy.

Pretty much a disappointment from the first team. I say trade McCown to the Jets and lets move on. I like the poise of Griffen, just m.o.
The ease at which the Ravens pushed the ball on our first team D is very discouraging. Luckily, we have time to clean things up.

Re: LIVE THREAD SAINTS VS. RAVENS 2015 PRESEASON KICKOFF

Highs:
Griffin and Grayson played well
Eulls, Davison and Spencer were in on a lot of plays in the 2nd half
Khiry Looks to be in midseason form, stronger than ever
Brandin Cooks

Lows:
McCown
1st and 2nd team defense
mental mistakes costing 15 penalties
Complete collapse at the end on defense(I hope this teaches all the coaches you don't blitz everyone on a 4th and 20)
Injuries to key starters
and finally the loss

So, yeah, I saw more lows than highs. The benefit is there is a lot of game film to watch in order to clean up the mess and there is no way that team can go in the locker room to start the season feeling like they are Super Bowl favorites. Not after that abomination on the field tonight.

RR won't have an opportunity to buy too many rounds at Miss Mae's if our D continues to play like it did tonight.

Re: LIVE THREAD SAINTS VS. RAVENS 2015 PRESEASON KICKOFF

Bad
Luke McClown numbers after the game are very deceiving 7/10 75 yards and 1 touchdown rtg 125 higher than Griffin 98. He didn't look comfortable at all while Griffin looked very poised and throwing precise passes and throwing it away when nothing was there.

Good
K Robinson was the star on offense look very explosive

Bad
Defensive line was a big disappointment. The 1st string couldn't get pressure nor could they stop the run

Good
Spencer was the star on defense. Pressuring the qb and played strong against the run

Grayson appeared to go well. Add him to the good list.

Re: LIVE THREAD SAINTS VS. RAVENS 2015 PRESEASON KICKOFF

Personally, I think last night's lost was impressive. Down 17- zip, the Gumbo Boys could have imploded (which I have seen often). But they held on, chipped away and even took the lead for a few moments.
AND WE HAVE KICKERS AGAIN!
The D, while yes they gave up several BIG (duh) plays and had too many penalties, were hungry ball getters (like in days of old).
Some roster cuts are going to be hard choices.

Re: LIVE THREAD SAINTS VS. RAVENS 2015 PRESEASON KICKOFF

I think Anthony looked really good for his first live NFL-action.
Kikaha showed good speed and mobility albeit he read the plays a little slow. I think those two fellows will be starting LBs for us for a long time.

Unger is the real deal!

Re: LIVE THREAD SAINTS VS. RAVENS 2015 PRESEASON KICKOFF

It shows how bad you are when you watch a defense that attacks every snap.

The ravens attacked our O line and won 70% of the time, our defense just stood up and waited to see what the play was before trying to stop it.

Anthony and Kikaha were active and both tackle really well, Kikaha in a couple instances was very close to getting sacks.

We'll just have to see what happens with the defense in regular season.

I'll repeat what I said in game day chat though, yeah Rob Ryan's in charge of the D, but I'm starting to question SP because he's hiring coordinators that are good for one season then shoddy afterwards.

3 defensive coordinators in 4 years is not good and Payton should be held accountable too!

Remember that we have looked both good and bad in preseason before and it's all changed when the regular season started.

Consider using words like, RR attends to the D like he does to his diet; neither are tight or in control.

Lelito was ok. I saw some positive things from PEAT however Evans is lacking something. Not sure if it's upper body strength, focus or what but he didn't look all that good.

But that UNGER dude... BEAST.

Re: LIVE THREAD SAINTS VS. RAVENS 2015 PRESEASON KICKOFF

Joe Flacco and the 1's pretty much effortlessly pushed our D from one end of the field to the other, like rag dolls. They were pretty much able to score at will while the 1's were in there. Reminded me of 2012 where every time the Saints kicked off or punted to the other team, we'd look at the scoreboard and mentally start adding another 7 to the total. Looked like a classic "Bend but don't break" defense, of the kind that just keeps on bending and bending until the other team is in the end zone.

Oh well, we'll see what the regular season brings.

Unger played well, his block on Brandin Cooks' screen TD was pretty sweet.

Sad to say, but Jahri is becoming a terrible player, people just brush him aside go get into the backfield now.

Yeah, sad to say but Evans may be done. Disappointing because OG's can usually play into their late 30's.

I agree with this. I would be comfortable with Griffin as the backup and if the Saints could get a 4th or 5th round pick for him it would be great.

Re: LIVE THREAD SAINTS VS. RAVENS 2015 PRESEASON KICKOFF

I wonder if we would just be better off with Senio Kelemete at right guard at this point. I know he's been practicing at center but he was playing guard before. Jahri is in rapid decline. I'm hoping he's just still trying to bounce back from the hand injury.

Re: LIVE THREAD SAINTS VS. RAVENS 2015 PRESEASON KICKOFF

Seno Kelemete sucked, he was blown in the back field a lot. No way will he be a improvement over Jahari. Fact, the entire 1st unit OL played well, Luke McClown just sucked.

Re: LIVE THREAD SAINTS VS. RAVENS 2015 PRESEASON KICKOFF

I have finished watching the whole game and have re-watched parts of it. The play overall as a team isn't really good but there is a lot of good individual plays all throughout the game. I'll focus on the positives.

+ A Josh Hill sighting. The man looked solid.
+ We have an embarrassment of riches at the WR position. I could easily see us keeping 6 WRs this year. My guess would be Colston, Cooks, Toon, Coleman, Jones and Snead.
+ Kelemente has improved a lot since last year. He'd be a great 6-7th guy on the OL.
+ Bryce Harris did some nice things. The false start was boneheaded but the second penalty had more to do with the WR not setting the play up right. He will probably get cut thou since I don't see us carrying more than 7 OL.
+ Peat had a decent showing for this being his first NFL action. I liked the movement of his feet for such a big guy but I think he flips his hips a little too soon.
+ Griffin looked better than I had expected.
+ Grayson wasn't shabby at all, really nice athletic ability.
+ SJB looking better in coverage and really coming in and sticking the RB on a play.
+Eulls with some nice push up the middle.
+ Murphy with good returns and nice speed.
+ Edebali showing continued progression.

My biggest concern after the game was injuries and penalties. Non of the injuries seems to have been really serious from what we have learned so far.
16 penalties are way to much, the good thing is that a lot of them are mental errors that are quite easy to correct.
