CJ Spiller has knee surgery

Says he will be back week one, but not good news. Plus I heard Byrd wasn't practicing again today. This injury bug has gotten ridiculous.

New Orleans Saints RB C.J. Spiller had arthroscopic knee surgery Friday, ESPN reports | NOLA.com

Geesh! These former bills have me questioning investing so many $$$$ and they can't even get on the field

Re: CJ Spiller has knee surgery

I heard from those with doctor type knowledge that it was a minor clean-out procedure, so I'm pretty sure his career is officially over.

Amputation scheduled for Tuesday.

Just one week of pre-season and I'm already depressed. Praying for better results come week one.

Re: CJ Spiller has knee surgery

I'm torn between reacting with it's a simple clean-out procedure and no big deal- to believing he will never have the same quickness or speed he has shown in the past. I'm gonna drink some more bourbon before I decide which one is true.

He does not need to play week 1 in that place. We need chemistry for that game.

Did anyone read the article? Minor clean-out and he'll be fine...

Yeah, but teams have a tendency to minimize injuries from time to time.

And I'm of the mindset that there's no such thing as minor knee surgery when it comes to a guy who needs speed and cutting to be successful.

That being said, it may be no big deal...

pass the rum.

I'm with u man. Spiller's knee procedure isn't really a big deal... But for a guy we're relying on to be our change of pace back and have that reliability with Drew; not good.

According to Rapoport, the internal thought was for Spiller to take care of the issue now so that the running back will be ready for the start of the regular season.
I'd rather him do it now, then have to deal with the pain/soreness during/after every game...

But I have to wonder, if it was really this minor why wasn't it done a month ago? Surely this problem didn't just appear after one preseason game huh?

Hookers. Dang!

Listen, anytime (and I mean anytime) you go poking around on a football player's knee it is cause for concern. Scope or otherwise. Not good. Not good a'tall.

Re: CJ Spiller has knee surgery

Exact same procedure that Reggie Bush had done every training camp

Draining excess fluid from the Knee

It seems common in those kind of speedy athletes that cut and change direction quickly.

next up? opppsss we got nobody backing him up and the RB have a long way to go in pass protection. were is PT?

Re: CJ Spiller has knee surgery

Last year Byrd had "minor" back surgery. Now Spiller has "minor" knee surgery. No more Buffalo players... (at least one offseason)

Re: CJ Spiller has knee surgery

Not concerned at all. Ingram 1a. Robinson 1b. If Spiller is available, that will be great. But, in Ingram and Robinson, the Saints have two top quality guys who can get it done in both phases of the game. And without Spiller, Payton will be less likely to use his horrible one play per back rotation.

Re: CJ Spiller has knee surgery

It is rather annoying that they took this long to decide on "cleaning it out". It would seem that he developed a problem recently for them to do this now, but if we believe what the Saints are saying then it should have been done much sooner.

If it is in fact just a little maintenance, then why delay? That's the only part that bothers me a bit.

Honestly I'm surprised Spiller was able to stay healthy this long.

Hightower? Maybe the Saints keep him on the final 53 as insurance, no?

Yes minor can go along way..... Byrd was minor... Still haven't seen him so I'll be surprised if spiller is in a uniform the opener....

Cruize 08-16-2015 12:29 PM

Re: CJ Spiller has knee surgery

My guess is Hightower makes the squad and Spiller goes on bring back IR. But, if the injuries keep happening like they did in the first game, anything is possible. It's always a numbers game. The one wild card is Murphy. If he shows promise on offense, being he's already shown his return skills, Hightower could be the odd person out if Spiller is healthy.

Byrd's back procedure was minor and he has had no problems with it ever since. The meniscus tear that ended last season for him is not even remotely related.

Re: CJ Spiller has knee surgery

Regardless of who remains healthy, I just hope we are not as predictable on first down as we have been for the last two years:

The running back who is behind Brees on first down gets the ball between the tackles. No questions asked.

I drafted Spiller in the 8th round behind Ingram, Gore, and Gurley.

Re: CJ Spiller has knee surgery

Wouldn't mind going out and getting another running back for the corps...

Tim Hightower was underwhelming and we really could use another big RB...

Didn't there use to be a guy named Thomas?!?

Robinson will step up and our workhorse is fine. We have tons or offense and we'll be fine.
