WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W. Va -- New Orleans Saints safety Jairus Byrd is on track to be back before the preseason is over, according to ESPN's Britt McHenry, who asked Saints coach Sean Payton after practice Wednesday.

C.J. Spiller, who reportedly had arthroscopic knee surgery, is on track to return by Week 1.

Byrd is currently on the physically unable to perform list and has not been seen at practice in more than a week. He appeared in two morning practices at training camp, working off to the side and jogging both times before leaving.

Didn't like the signing then. Definitely don't like it now. Not the players fault. Would be shocked if the Saints get anything positive out of the guy. Hope he proves me wrong.

The one positive, a lot of players are getting experience right before the season starts with all these injuries. If we can get back to the law of averages it could be a good thing. Looking like we may even get some keepers out of the scrap bin as well. Hope he can get back on the field but if we can't get pressure it won't matter much.

The games Byrd played last year before he got hurt were poor.
He was so soft playing 40 yards off the line

The only play that excited me was a strong hit on a Cowboy receiver from out of nowhere

Sounds like last year and last year results will prolly happen again. No chemistry with other players and playing as not to get hurt again. I was high on the signing then he had the surgery not too soon afterwards and my feelings changed cuz when he's hurt he's hurt.

At this point I'd be surprised if he makes it to the regular season opener. Anything short of an all pro season will be a bust with the money he's making. Man I hope this guy can get healthy, get on the field and start producing.

We all know what's really going to happen. The guy hasn't barely stepped a toe on the practice field. He is going on PUP.

Hate to say it but I also think PUP and out half the season. Man I hate injuries.

Remember this is Sean Payton, if there's one thing he learned from the Parcells coaching tree its to not let on about injuries.

The worst part of this is not developing that game chemistry...

Almost wish he'd go on IR, just so the remaining pieces could resolve themselves to getting it done...
