Former NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue offered his support Thursday night -- and a suggested pitch -- to New Orleans Saints owner Tom Benson for the city's 2020 Super Bowl bid, according to a media report.
"It'll be the 100th anniversary of the league," Tagliabue said, according to NOLA.com, while presenting an award to longtime Superdome executive Doug Thornton in New Orleans as the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina approaches. "The NFL has always been a community-minded league, and [New Orleans' recovery from Katrina] is probably the greatest community moment in the history of the NFL. Didn't like Paul Tagliabue and his ProLabor-Lawyerly position as Commissioner...
But after what he and Rita (yes, that Rita) did Post-Katrina/Post-Tom-Benson's-Schiotting-His-Hat, well... Should have a statue of Rita at a podium with Paul Tagliabue's standing alongside with his arm around her and a cash statchel with a NFL Shield buckle of cash at his feet outside the Superdome to commemorate the Restoration of the Saints to New Orleans... As you can tell by the post, I've got a new found respect for that man and he should be in our Saints Hall of Fame... |
