'We were a disgrace,' ex-Saints quarterback Aaron Brooks says of post-Katrina New Orleans team
1 Attachment(s)
In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the 2005 New Orleans Saints were a discombobulated and forgotten franchise, ex-quarterback Aaron Brooks recounted recently to Sporting News.
"Nobody," Brooks said. "Nobody had our backs." Brooks and former place kicker John Carney described to SN what it was like behind the scenes that season when the team set up temporary headquarters in San Antonio, split home games between the Alamodome and LSU's Tiger Stadium and even played a "home" game in New York. Players were selfish, Brooks said. There was no accountability or structure. http://dy.snimg.com/story-image/6/39...72-650-366.jpg "We were a disgrace," the quarterback said. "Even though it doesn't seem like we messed up, we messed up. Because our city was messed up. If our fans are unhappy, then our team is unhappy. If our team is unhappy, then the city is unhappy. Because New Orleans is the team. The city of New Orleans is the football team." http://theadvocate.com/csp/mediapool...YPE=image/jpeg http://i.imgur.com/5KPDvU9.png?1 read more here And more here |

Could've gone longer without being reminded of Brooks, if that picture had been taken after an interception he would've been smiling.

Bad coaching and Brooks never should have been made the starter. Brooks needed to develop.

Yeah Aaron and you were the problem. Brooks wasn't an NFL quarterback. Where's he working these days.

Who was the QB when the Saints won their first playoff game ever? :) I was there.

Brooks was a "good" but not great QB. IMO, he wasn't a good leader. Never looked at film on the sidelines, never coached any of his teammates up, and wasn't the type of player that makes others around him play better. I honestly think he's a nice and decent person with good qb dkills but not-so-good leadership skills. Plenty of QB's like that in the league. Jay Cutler is the worst.

Jeff Blake should've been the starter

What? No Billy Joe (fill in the blank) quotes? That's a true disgrace!!!

It would have been interesting to have seen Brooks in SPs system. I think a lot of his problems were due to bad coaching.

I remember that. Haslett refused to bench him even though he was hurt. I had arguments with other Saints fans about that. I'd ask them, "if the quarterback is hurt, and everyone knows he's hurt, but, he's still in the game, is that his fault or the coaches?" I think Haslett didn't want to start a QB controversy. |
