PFF Grades for Saints vs. Patriots

Saints:

–Rookie OLB Hau’oli Kikaha got the start for the Saints and did not disappoint. He hit the quarterback once and recorded an additional pressure on his way of picking up a game-high +2.1 pass-rush grade. In addition, he also racked up three stops to prove his value against the run as well.

–While Kikaha excelled, fellow rookie OT Andrus Peat showed that he is still a work in progress. In pass protection he allowed one quarterback hit and one pressure, while in the run game he finished tied for the lowest run-blocking grade on the Saints.

–After the game Bill Belichick expressed his satisfaction with the fact that the Patriots don’t have to face Brandin Cooks twice a year, and this is absolutely understandable looking at Cooks’ performance Saturday night. The second-year wide receiver recorded a reception against three different Patriots defenders and averaged 29.3 yards per catch. Saints QBs had a perfect passer rating when throwing to him.

Top 5 graded players:

Cameron Jordan +4.1

Drew Brees +3.1

Hau’oli Kikaha +3.0

Brandin Cooks +2.7

Terron Armstead +1.9

Nice to see Cam doing his thing again.

Cam and Kikaha had very solid performances

They won their individual battles on multiple occasions and made solid tackles for a loss.

Saw a lot of improvement for the Saints in the Patriots preseason game over the first game in Baltimore. Drew looked top notch ready to go.

I really love reading this part about Kikaha: "In addition, he also racked up three stops to prove his value against the run as well." That makes me very happy!

I keep saying this but just wait until Kikaha develops his technique.

"K sizzle"! :broccoli:

That's what impressed me about Kikaha too.

He didn't just go straight for the QB, he played the football and then reacted from that.

The guy can play, his tackles are physical and we heard one of his hits from where we were sat.

I was too, but keep in mind they're rookies and the Pats played a lot of their 1s and 2s all game for Garappolo.

They'll get better, I'm sure.

Very disappointed in the mistackles by Coley...

Really hope the light goes off for Kaleb Eulls; he's got comparable size to Cam and has the character we need to reset this locker room...

On a side note - I payed close attention on Evans after the criticism he received after the first preseason game, and at least to my eyes he looked solid against the Pats.

Especially that dummy on the Robinson screen pass was worthy of an Oscar while the blocking he did afterwards was equally well performed.

Oh and the Jets' castaway corner didn't look half bad either - he seemed to be around the ball quite a lot. Additionally he wasn't afraid to make contact with the Pats' players unlike SJB, who seemed like he was afraid he'd mess up his freshly painted nails.

I thought Edebali was a positive grade. He was all over the field running down tackles. I thought he was one positive in the depth players.

Another performance like that and I don't see how you keep SJB

The starters looked good. I'm interested in seeing what we have when our secondary actually gets it together and they all play at the same time

Improvement is what we're looking for right now, and the improvement from last week to this week was significqant.

Actually, while the on-field results were encouraging; many of the PFF grades dipped...

Would like to see more from Anthony.

He has yet to make any flash plays that I have noticed (and I am the fool that watches preseason games 3 times).

For all the hype he gets in practice it sure isn't flourishing on the field. However we have a very limited sample size so I am sure, at least I hope, that he will start to stand out.

I think you may be expecting too much. He's making defensive calls. He's not blowing assignments. He's shown tackling and coverage ability... The fact that he's NOT being singled out for mistakes, yet still involved in or near every tackle is enough for me.

I'm not disappointed in the guy but from the hype around him in camp I would have expected to see a flash play or two when it counts. His lights will come on, and don't be mistaken I am not saying he played poorly, I just want to see his performance on the field reflect that of his performance in practice.

I think we all wanna see that skull crushing Ray Lewis type hit from him. I know I do.

I'm sure it'll come, but right now I could not be more pleased with his development. He's had a ton thrown at him, he's expected to be the leader of the defense as well as a stud LB.

So far I think he's easily the best pick of our draft so far.

But yeah, I wanna see him crush some skulls too. I want it all, and I want it now!!!

I see Cooks breaking some records this year.

I haven't been keeping up much with what's going on but how has Breaux looked so far?

Breaux has looked like a stud so far. He's out-performing both Lewis and Browner in camp (yes, I know its only camp).

The kid is gonna be a star.

The depth we have at the corner back position is shaping up to be solid.
Read a report that Browner is back at practice (light jogging with a knee brace).
