Pierre Warren 1st team

I watch a lot of football and Pierre Warren is by far the best free safety the Saints have. I keep reading about his tackling skills but when you have your free safety playing that deep off the ball I don't see any free safety in the league being able to easily bring down a 230 plus back with a full head of steam. This young guy is a ball hawk and is healthy he plays nothing like a 2nd year player from a small school. I say cut Byrd and take the financial hit.

To be fair, we haven't seen a healthy Byrd suit up for the Saints yet...

Re: Pierre Warren 1st team

I'm all about Warren, but unfortunately there's no way we can cut Byrd for another 2-3 years. We're stuck I'm afraid.

1st post here and it is in support of Warren starting. OK Pierre Warren we know it's you. Welcome to the site.

Well since we can't get rid of Byrd...yet, we can get rid of the strong safety in free safety clothing Bush.

Agreed. Trade Bush and Pierre Warren will be starting come week 1 anyways because Byrd ain't gonna be ready. We normally keep 5 safeties so let's roll with Byrd, Warren, Phillips at FS and Vaccaro, Sunseri at SS.

With Warren with the 1st bring me to be concern how serious is Byrd injury. The only way Warren make this team is Byrd end up on the PUP/ IR

Why is that the only way Warren makes the team? He's been our most effective safety for a little while now. I think Payton has realized that. Byrd won't be ready but I think Warren is legitimately claiming that back-up spot.

we need to axe the saints dr.s who passed this guy byrd a healthy player and to even knowing he needed a simple surgery that was okayed after the signing- smell a rat?

It's quite possible he might make the roster if the saints want to carry 5 safeties

Re: Pierre Warren 1st team

Byrd at 75% healthy is better than every other safety we have on the roster.

I have already discussed how he was the best defensive player on the team in the first 4 games last year.

Right now it doesn't look like a good signing, but ill wait to make that judgement call til after this season. Point being don't right the guy off yet, it's close but he could have an all-pro year.

Warren and Sunseri starting with Vaccaro playing the slot/nickle/TE role as he did as a rookie.

Sunseri sucks. He is Jason David disguised as a safety. He has blown enough coverages to last the season in 2 preseason games. I pray he is cut and picked up by the dirty turds.

Re: Pierre Warren 1st team

I agree with B&G. Byrd was our best defender in the very limited action we saw him. I am not writing him off yet and as mentioned, we have zero ability to cut him and take the hit anyways so it's not worth discussing. I am not impressed with the way our front office has dealt with large contracts like Byrd, Gallette and Graham though. They were all bad deals and should not have been done. I'm not even a fan of the deals with re-did with Jordan and Evans. Loomis has had a bad two years after earning alot of my respect with his front office moves prior.

With the way we seem to be constantly decimated by injuries I am not for trading any depth. There is little likelihood we see a healthy Byrd and Vaccaro for 16 games. We need the depth that Bush, Warren and Sunseri provide and I also really like what Phillips has done this offseason.

I don't agree with the knock on Sunseri. He's a top notch special teamer and while not great he is better than alot of teams 3 or 4 safety. I like our secondary depth just not our luck with injuries.

Re: Pierre Warren 1st team

Byrd is definetely a legit ball hawk and he Flys around and is always around the ball. Warren has good ball skills too though. I disagree totally with the cut Sinseri post. He got beat a couple times but no more than Vaccarro And Sinseri hits like a truck. The combine says he's our fastest safety.

But can he play safety? Oh wait.............

Re: Pierre Warren 1st team

I look at Warren as a win, win type of player. If Byrd is healthy he can sit behind him and pick up all Byrd brings (which is alot) to the game, if Byrd is not healthy we have a true FS to step right in and play at a good level. If he plays at a high level then Byrd(who I love also) will have to beat him out. I agree that Bush is no FS and really never has been or will be but has value as trade bait or a in box SS.

Saints spending one-fifth of their cap space on players not on the team.

In New Orleans, 20 percent of the cap is dead money, according to Spotrac. Among the players who count huge amounts against the Saints’ salary cap even though they’re no longer on the team are tight end Jimmy Graham ($9 million), guard Ben Grubbs ($6 million), linebacker Junior Galette ($5.45 million) and linebacker Curtis Lofton $5 million).

they can't afford to release Bush for Warren, plus Akiem Hicks contract is just around the corner

Akiem Hicks hasn't done a damn thing yet to warrant a big new contract and unless he absolutely lights it up this year I don't care if we let him walk.

why not trade a safety to the giants since they are in desperate need of one

None of us know if our front office has or hasn't tried to.

At this point of pre-season the Giants probably have a list of 20 safeties they think may get cut and they have a chance of claiming.

Why trade when you have 20 potential options without trading?

Re: Pierre Warren 1st team

Byrd still plays for us lol......I'm giving it this year to hold judgment against Byrd. I'm assuming he will play week 1, but I do have a small fear that he may have a undisclosed injury that may take time to heal. I do agree Warren should start next to KV.

Next year we will see a little relief. The following year everyone will fall off. Drew Brees also will be up for contract in 2 years. If we choose to keep him his contract will not be close to the 27.5 million he commanded this year. we have roughly 29 million in dead money this year compared to 15 million next.

Well that happened.

Why don't teams or (can't teams) write something into the contract where they do not have to pay someone an exorbitant amount of money when they DONT PLAY!! :dunce:

Let Warren wear Byrd's jersey.

If Warren ends up playing lights out we would have a big decision to make if Byrd returns. I like this kid alot and as much as I like Byrd I would have to let Warren to keep seeing the field if playing well.
