Big concern I have is the run game

I mean Ingram is good and it should(key word) be improved with Spiller as well. However, last year, Ingram virtually carried a lot because PT was banged up and Khiry was the only threat. Now with Spiller around, if saints try to split carries with all three backs, that is going to affect Ingram's rhythym. I think Khiry should be on the bench and used no more than 2 or 3 times or when a game is basically over. Three backs battling for carries is too much and from what I'm seeing with Brees so far, it does not look like we are going to be run-first at all.

Don't worry man, Spiller will be hurt all the time. It'll be all Ingram.

Ingram 1a. Robinson 1b. To get something meaningful from anyone is a bonus.

Spiller hasn't been hurt "all the time" ever.

I just want a good run game. Not too concerned who runs it - unless it's Drew.

Did I say that? No... I said he'll be hurt all the time. Merely my prediction.

The run game will only be good as Sean's commitment to it. While I think they want to commit to the run, I'm not sure a leopard can change his spots, and deep down, I think Sean likes to throw, throw, and throw some more.

Payton is going to play the hot hand. No matter who it be. I do buy into that theory about Ingram and him getting rythem but if he cant it will be because one of the other guys are doing just as good a job as he could.

I'm thinking the same as vtiger it's going to be pass first run second. But I also think if SP see's that the ground game is working he will take what he can get.

"All the time" is hardly a prediction. You clearly think this is a wasted signing so why not stand up and tell us just how many games he'll miss this season?

Same Saints, different season.

You have to win nationally televised games. Period. A concerted effort would have done wonders for cohesion.

I personally don't care who runs the ball as long as we don't do it predictably.

I'm worried about the lack of an O-line push in the run game.

Concerns in the run game is an issue, what really concerns
me is the Defense. I know it's early but it seems that I'm
looking in the mirror of last season.

I think our run game is going to be fine. I think if Payton will relegate himself to actually doing it we can be a fine running team, but he's going to have to control himself and be willing to grind out a few first downs sometimes to get it going. We've to the backs and the beef up front to move some bodies and run the ball. We have to commit to it.

I agree. If(if) Payton committs to the run game? Sometimes he can be his worst own enemy. I would like to throw out all the cuteness and run with Ingram and Robinson. I would have liked to see a sledge-hammer type of back drafted to close out late.

I just don't think SP can control himself after he has a few running plays stuffed. He knows he has Drew and he unwraps another Juicy Fruit and it's back to the pass. It's like trying to keep a Kid out of the cookie jar.

Your on to something here. I always thought that we were to predictable with if we were gonna run or pass in the past. in the past, if Ingram was in, they knew it was a run. Pierre was the one that made the other team wonder but if they thought pass it was usually right.

I think seeing how we have been using Ingram in preseason as a move to keep the opposing team guessing. It's not like CJ can't run the ball. being unpredictable this season with our running backs, as far as whether it's a pass or screen or run, is what's gonna help them succeed.

Playing catch up because that weak defense cant stop anyone is going to prevent us from running the ball.

Re: Big concern I have is the run game

spiller is a toy. SP has plans to use him all over the feild.

my concern is Ingram and can he stay healthy for the most part and prove last year was not a fluke.

Can Robinson step up and carry the load if needed? If not and Spiller has to carry the load then i worry about injury. Running between the tackles is Spiller's injury bug a boo

Re: Big concern I have is the run game

Khiry only if he leaves the pass catching to Spiller. Khiry didn't really help us out during Ingram's absence. I mean we beat two bad teams and one of them we had to come back against, the other our offense was sloppy. The other one, however, Khiry wasn't strong enough to keep us on the field.

Re: Big concern I have is the run game

The O-line was never "really" run ready.
Payton was never committed to the run and therefore the
"mind to do" was never there.
All the 3rd and 1's were dead two yards deep in the backfield.
Didn't matter which back had the ball, they could never get started.
They all died early in games when there was no commitment to push
and put teams on their heels.
Opposing defenses win the line of scrimmage battle early,
then it's a hope and 2 prayers trying to convert with a two-tight-end set:
2 ton offensive line against 8 in the box and wonder why a seam can't be found in all of that meat.
Payton talked about balance but his personnel sets made him predictable.
It was obvious when he was running or throwing when he sent his packages on to the field.
I would like to see him run the ball out of the spread offensive sets.
Let our front five-six dictate the line of scrimmage.
Then there is space to operate - for the blockers and the back.
Unstack the front on 3rd and 1 and let Brees make the decision...
we're talking about Drew Brees.
I'm stuck thinking pass-happy Payton too until he shows me different.
I like Payton, but he is what he is.
Brees' success has had a lot to do with that - and I understand it.
Owning the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball is what pays dividends.
We can score with anybody, even if we don't run the ball.
Until we get to where we can get our defense off the field on 3rd and long,
27-30 points a game will end us up 8-and-8...AGAIN...
Greg Williams, Spagnuolo, Ryan...none of them played a down.
Payton has been digging for gold trying to find someone that can do what he does
on the defensive side of the ball.
And until he does, Bress may have to rack up another 5,000.
