Predictions for the start of the season
Just wanted to see if anyone had any predictions for the start of the season, it can be anything from cuts, to people starting that we perhaps didn't think would a couple months back.
I'll start; I predict that the starting WR's will be Colston, Cooks and Snead At this point Snead looks more physical and a better fit than Coleman - who seems to be a clone of Nick Toon, great in camp, invisible in games. I also think Damian Swann will be starting at Nickel Corner. I understand Breaux has been injured and that's perhaps why he didn't have a good showing vs Texans, he was getting beat by a lot of underneath routes for first downs - maybe rust. Still you can't rule out that Damian Swann has had 3 very good weeks of preseason so far. Let's hear any predictions you have! |
Re: Predictions for the start of the season
Honestly, this is the first time where I can say I have no clue...
Offensively this team looks to be in good, if not great shape. However, on the defensive side of the ball I can't tell if we'll be last or first. There are a lot of concerns and a lot of things that we look to be doing well. |

It all depends on that defense. If they suck as bad as last year I could easily see 8-8. If they end up being in the top 1/2 of the league I could see 10-12 wins, easily. I just have no clue what this defense will look like due to all the changes, youth, and new additions. At times I think they've made that step forward (Pats game), then I see the Texans game and wonder WTF is going on. |

2-2 to start.
The changes this offseason will prove to have been the right moves but it will take a month to see the improvement. |

PASS RUSH?
One appears and we will start off hot. See what we have seen in preseason and we'll never get that D off the field and Drew will need to come up with 31 points a game... |
Re: Predictions for the start of the season
0-4.

Re: Predictions for the start of the season
Predictions or wishful thinking?
The defense will play well enough to get 2-3 wins out of the first 5 games. Naah! |

Re: Predictions for the start of the season
Sep 13 @Cardinals
Sep 20 Buccaneers Sep 27 @Panthers To stand a shot this season the saints can not start out any less than 2-1. We can not lose to Tampa at home again this year. A road win in the NFC South is big but to win in Atlanta is huge. 2-0 in the NFC South right out of the gate looms large This season may be made or broken by the time we play the cowgirls. 0-2 in the south and we will be beaten puppies walking into the cow dome 2-0 in the south and we will be jacked and looking to make a statement. |
Re: Predictions for the start of the season
I can really see the Saints clobbering the Cardinals in the opener and it will take off from there.

Re: Predictions for the start of the season
Health the biggest concern, though at present Payton seems to be resting a lot of guys out of caution. Kikaha is the real deal and will put up great sack numbers this year. Drew is back. O line is going to be best asset. Offense will be a scoring machine. Defense will struggle some for the first month or so but changes will be good. Energy of all players will be biggest need. The team needs a rallying cause.

Re: Predictions for the start of the season
The defense is a head scratcher.... If we get no pass rush I don't care how great our secondary is its going to be another long season....
|
Re: Predictions for the start of the season
I predict that we surprise everyone and beat Carson Palmer in the first game.
|
Re: Predictions for the start of the season
Not worried about Offense. The BIG IF is pass rush Secondary appears much improved. Pass rush is key concern. A improved run game is a way to make life easier on The Defense. Lots of new parts to implement . Could be rough u til players mesh. Lots of new talent. Looking forward to interesting season. Who Dat!!!

Re: Predictions for the start of the season
First 8 will be 3-5 and the second 8 will be 7-1
|
Re: Predictions for the start of the season
10-6.

Re: Predictions for the start of the season
We got a tough row in the first half of the season. If we are able to start 3-1, it'd be real good.

A lot of people are going to be even more glad we have rob ryan

Re: Predictions for the start of the season
It's official In my book that SJB will be released,,,, it will come down to Brian Dixon and Kyle Wilson for the 4th spot or they find a better one on waiver or trade
It was burning me up that the commentators couldn't get it right when they were calling out Kyle Wilson for SJB's penalty. |
Re: Predictions for the start of the season
It really comes down to team chemistry, specifically offensive line and defensive front seven...
Just how fast can these guys gel and reclaim the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball that we seemed to control and took for granted... |

Re: Predictions for the start of the season
Historically the Payton-led Saints do not do so well, if they don't come out strong, right out the gate....when they're limping along through the season, lagging a game or two behind in the division, unable to take care of business, playing catch up, down to the wire, bumbling along from week to week...those type of years never seems to work out for the Payton Saints. The years that they come out strong and run the table, that's where their real success is. If they fall into a hole then it's very hard for Brees, Payton and co. to dig themselves out of it. That's just the way the team is built.
2006, 2009, 2011, 2013 -- all had strong starts and piles of convincing wins at the beginning, putting the Saints out in front, in the driver's seat. The years where they limp along, hanging by a thread, backs to the wall, it always turns into a mediocre 2007, 2008, 2012 type season, or else they end up in a dismal situation like last year, which was such a miserable slog. If they have to leave it up to someone else to take care of things for them (like praying for a certain team to lose X number of games) it never works out. |
Re: Predictions for the start of the season
I'll predict this like the weather - mostly cloudy with a chance of sun - but a greater chance of rain & storms!
|
Re: Predictions for the start of the season
5-11 (I'm a realist)
Last year most people blamed the defense but the truth is the offense couldn't close out games, hopefully with Jimmy gone and Drew not forcing the ball to him constantly we can actually close out games and reverse this number. |
Re: Predictions for the start of the season
I'm gonna guess 6-10 or 7-9. Haven't seen anything from this D to make me feel like they are even mediocre.

4-2 vs NFCS
3-1 vs NFCE 2-2 vs AFCS 1-1 vs Lions and Cards 10-6, NFCS Champs |

I guess I am more optimistic than others this year. I don't think the D will perform as bad as some of you think. Swann and Bro are going to be studs. There are two dark horses that no one mentions but will have a massive impact, Vaccaro and Ellerbe. If Vaccaro performs like he did his rookie year and Ellerbe can get healthy this defense will surprise people. |
Re: Predictions for the start of the season
Impossible to know, PS we were not making the most valiant effort to win games. I do think the D will be somewhat better that what we have seen which would be in line with the parody of the NFL. A team that loses all the PS games but is sitting at 4-0. It would not surprise me at all.
