If someone wants to actually justify that the pre-free-agency period was better than todays NFL, they are a complete and utter idiot, in my humble opinion.
What\'s so \"humble\" about calling someone a complete and utter idiot? LMAO!! That\'s doesn\'t sound \"humble\" to me.

Sounds to me like you\'re remembering some of those Saints azz-whippings against the 49\'ers back in the days when dynasties ruled.

I like the FA era better too.

But, we get a lot of watered down games.

Very straight forward Danno. That\'s why I say this is definitely the biggest accomplishment in NFL history. While I don\'t think anyone\'s an idiot, I do see where some would feel the talent upon talent of teams from back in the day would beat today\'s Pats. I am not throughly convinced of that, cause I can see both sides. But I am right in line with you as loving today\'s NFL. Any given Sunday is a truth in this age of football. It was harder to have been a fan of a team other than the 3-4 dynasties before free agency came along. Definitely like today\'s game better.

the pats mastery of the cap is what made them the first true dynasty of the cap era. \'90s niners and boys got eaten up by the cap. denver successfully circumvented it somewhat.

i prefer the age of parity. a 4-12 chargers can actually turnaround to contend immediately. just as there were seemingly never ending dynasties way back in the day of the raiders, the old pack, boys, etc- there were franchises that wallowed in the mire for decades. as i have voiced, an 8-8 team like the saints could easily be 12-4 OR 4-12 next yr.

as far as comparisons, the further you go back the more today\'s modern teams would chew them up- the intensity, the professionalism, the high stakes of the money, and mostly just pure athleticism and physical specimens. lineman looked more like today\'s fullbacks or light lb\'s a generation ago. blazing speed then is just a competent fast guy today. i do think many of the old qb\'s would have been even more successful in today\'s passer protected game tho.
