this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; The punt at the end was just throwing in the towel. What are you hoping to accomplish by giving away the ball, needing 6, with only 2 minutes left on the clock. It was just sad. I wish I could ...

Yeah that was stupid. What the heck did he see in our defense that made him to believe they could stop the cards? You have a top 4 QB so you take the ball out of his hands and put it in a defense which has 4-5 rookies starting.

Oh lord, after all the things I've been going on about in these threads I forgot to mention that Punt.... That was the freaking most bone-headed decision I can remember from Payton.

PUNT with the best case scenario (barring a lucky turnover) of getting the ball back at your own twenty, if the punter really screws up, with just under a minute left and no timeouts while needing a touchdown? Really? Is it that important that we stick to the old "don't go for it from that deep in your own territory" school of thought, that we won't go for it even with the game on the line? Just because, mathematically speaking, we could get it back? What's wrong with you Sean?!

If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.

It was bad math. Let's say we punt it to the Cardinals and they do 3 QB kneels and punt the ball back to us. We use both timeouts, Cards run as much clock as possible. Sure, we'd get the ball back at around our 20 yard-line, but with only 30 seconds, 0 timeouts and needing a TD. No chance in accomplishing that against the Cardinals defense.

I cut Payton a little slack because other NFL coaches seem to over-punt too. But then again I cut him less slack because they had a whole two-minute warning break to make a good decision and yet failed to do so.

It was a piss poor call, just like his play calling for most of the game.

Carmichael should be calling the plays not Payton.

It was sad indeed. Down by a TD and punt with 2 minutes left...who does that? I think he was just pissed with the offense the more I think about it. Your best players are Brees and Cooks. That's why they make big boy money; to make big boy plays!!!

If we are going win games we have to air it out. The short ball game is not going to work. Start doing that and we might have a chance. Make defenses pay for playing short ball.

Im not gonna blame Cooks for this. he was being covered exclusively by the best cover corner in the league. This is when others are suppose to step up. I remember not long ago, it didn't matter if the opposing team took away a weapon, we would just spread it around. Are those days gone?

Thats what happens when your biggest need besides Linebacker is wide receiver and the so called "Head Coach" picks a God damn prospect Offensive Lineman.

Getting real tired of Sean Payton and his offense, yesterday was pathetic when we got into the red zone.

The defense gave us 3 consecutive three and outs and we wasted all of them.

We had the ball before half time and failed.

Swapping field goals for touchdowns will never win.

Payton isn't the aggressive coach he once was, he now points the blame at everyone but himself.
