My positive Paulie take on things
Playcalling was predictable as hell and we still didnt have balance. He didnt abandon the run which is good but wayyyyy to many screens.
Drew looked well, older. Didnt seem as accurate as usual and it is odd because the offensive line actually did a much better job pass blocking than a year ago. Receivers need some work. Maybe we should look at NIcks. Colston pulled a Colston and Coleman didnt do much to give Drew confidence. Our red zone offense looks just as pathetic as last year. Still cant get the turnover. Breaux got one but I saw at least 3-4 other opportunities blown that could have been game changers. Payton really does seem to hate Ryan. Even if the defense plays well I think there is a riff in that marriage that cant be mended and he will never have Paytons total trust. If Payton has to second guess the defense all the time he starts calling stupid plays. WTF was that pass to Cooks in the endzone when he was covered by Peterson? That was just dumb. Anyway there are some positives and I do actually feel a little better about the team but it seems like there are a lot of problems that carried over from last year. |
Re: My positive Paulie take on things
That was uh.... Not as positive as I was expecting. But I don't really disagree with you.
And that's my neutral, um..... Newton take. |
Re: My positive Paulie take on things
What I see we need to improve on is pass rush. Wr reducing the drops. Dl keeping the ol off the linebackers
|
Re: My positive Paulie take on things
It's a given that our offense is supposed to carry this team...as always but now that can't we need help from our defense. With what we had available I think they did decent except for not getting a consistent pass rush...

Re: My positive Paulie take on things
And Steve Spagnola has the Giants D looking good. Maybe our defense problems go away beyond who our coordinators are.

Its ridiculous, and we all know those 4th ranked defenses were with weak schedules, defense folded in the playoffs. Just saying Ted, Saints fans have good reason to blame the defense, they have literally sucked. If we just had a competent 10-15th ranked defense in this time we would have 2-3 rings by now. Saints offensive Rank Saints 2014 1 2013 4 2012 2 2011 1 2010 6 2009 1 2008 1 2007 4 2006 1 I mean jesus Ted we literally were the best in the NFL sense 2006 period on offense. Thats crazy. Saints fans are pissed at the defense and they should be. Defense is the one that has to prove to saints fans, not the other way around. We have delt with this too long and now Brees's time is running out. Everyone needs to stop making excuses for broken coverage and 7pts at the end of the game to put it out of reach. Hold - do your Job - or get fired Frankly we are sick of the bad defenses in NO. if we cant figure it out, fire everyone on the D coaching staff and start from scratch. Cant do much worse. So I wouldn't blame Saints fans for being fed up. |

The offense is young and ready. Only to get better.

Re: My positive Paulie take on things
Offensive play calling was offensive. Targeted tight ends once I think. Was this screen night? OK I get the ball control plan but dude- stretch the field some. Great long play to Snead - why not go back to more like it? Drew had time. Were the AZ corners/safeties that good? Drew looked - and can't believe I'm saying it - lost. Young D kept us in the game till the end. Payton looks to have made the coaching relationships toxic - he needs to get over himself and be a team player. Go out to dinner with the other coaches and laugh a while. Lighten up on the pressure, everyone wants to win. Try to have fun.

Otherwise, for the first game of the season, on the road, against a good home team, in their house, with so many new young players, and still be in it with 2 minutes left playing poorly.............clean it up and this team will be good. 1-4 in the red-zone, 7-18 on third down, several missed opportunities for turnovers, no run game, it should have been a blow out. |

stunk up the field. If offense had done its job 50% of the time, we win yesterday, and I dont believe the Cardinals score the last 2 TD's. |
Re: My positive Paulie take on things
I didn't listen to Payton's post game pressor but did anyone get his explanation on that 4th down call late in the game where he elected to punt instead of going for it?
|
Re: My positive Paulie take on things
Rob Ryan should have yelled at Payton
Our defense forced 3 consecutive punts and the offense did F all with the opportunity. |
Re: My positive Paulie take on things
Offense is not to be feared at this time. I still have hope the WRs will step up. Huge gamble in the off season
Defense can play 2/3 of game but it will fold in the last 1/3. Contain the pocket? whats that? NT get driven were ever the blocker wants to take them. So it is the same ol same ol that about sums it up |
Re: My positive Paulie take on things
I'll give my take on the game and both sides of the ball.
Offensively - As stated many times our play calling was suspect. I am not sure the fascination with the screens but they became very predictable. We played a top 5 defense and struggled against it. I thought pass protection was very good. It was our receivers who couldn't get the separation they needed. Robinson and Ingram ran with spark even when the holes didn't exist. Against a bad defense I think it looks a lot better. Defensively - I was impressed with the effort and production of Jordan and Kikaha. Williams was solid in the middle but Hicks and Jenkins were non-existent. It said volumes when Davison and Richardson are in on key downs late in the game. Anthony played well as did Swann. They stood out. Other than that I don't think I heard a back 7 player be named for a good reason. Breaux's pick was overshadowed by all of the penalties and times he was playing catch up to the game which I expected alot of our young players to do so he gets a pass. Overall I thought our defense did enough to get us a win. I expected we would drop this game and it played out pretty much what I figured. Tough, well coached team at home and I figured we would hang around and keep it close and lose a tight game. |

It's not what it looks like.............misdirection baby

I think a lot of the fans that want to blame the offense are younger and have come up watching football since the high powered offenses came to pass and are just spoiled because there arent big plays every down. The older posters know the importance of a good defense and balance. |
Re: My positive Paulie take on things
I don't see how you can blame Brees for any of what happened yesterday. If the receivers had caught half of the balls that hit them in the hands we would have won.
Seriously, they must have dropped 10 passes. |

Re: My positive Paulie take on things
Drew didn't look any different , except for he didn't want to turn the ball over took really safe throws but maybe that's because we only have 1 vertical threat, I say give Murphy some offensive touches I feel the defense would have to respect him more on a screen than Ingram who missed that wheel route he's not a receiving back

Yeah I know the O lost at least 3 games last year, but I am just saying what everyone else is thinking in NO. We are tired of the the bad defenses, and not being able to hold ever. At least the offense gave us some dominance over 9 years, D has sucked, and the excuses are getting old because we are running out of time. |
Re: My positive Paulie take on things
How grown ups can confuse the meaning between "loss" and "lost" is beyond me.
