Saints Resign S Kenny Philips

As expected

I'm also guessing Bush may have a broken collar bone after hearing reports that he was seen in a sling after the game.

How is the best safety from last year and this preseason, being the only one to EVER make a play, P. Warren, not on the team? Phillips deserved to be cut and in no way makes the team better.

There's a chance Byrd will be back this week (but probably more like week 3.)

I thought Philips looked like our best safety in pre-season.

And Pierre Warren may also be re-signed at some point.

Kenny is a SS that can play FS equally well.

Pierre Warren is a pure center field FS.

It was really encouraging watching Bush get pushed half the length of the field by that tight end... Fells, I believe it was. Looked like he got hit by a tornado.

Phillips should have been on the roster in the first place. He's no savior, but I think he's better than Bush.

yep keep adding to the IR list. 28% of the caps not even on the field is not enough.

bumps and bruises

bring on the bucs

Good signing

If I'm not mistaken, Kenny P contract is not guaranteed ... probably something Saints front office had planned from the beginning.

Might want to think about bringing back one of the Morgans too. Send Seantavius Jones back to the practice squad if he can't contribute right now.

KP was the best safety this preseason, he had the most tackles out of anyone. PW have great instinct being a balhawk and I will be happy if we signed him but no way did he out play KP

Phillips can still get better. The talent is there. Just tackle.

Kenny Phillips at 100% health is as good or better than any safety we've had since Darren Shraper.

Its always been about him being healthy.

If we can get Phillips and Byrd at 100%, it might be our best safety tandem ever, or close to it.

I agree...and he also seemed to know the scheme better than those who have been here. He knew where to be and like you said is versatile to play either FS or SS. I honestly feel like the defense just got a little better.

Kenny Phillips is absolutely an upgrade over Rafael Bush. In fact, as wrong as it sounds... The FO is probably pretty happy they found such an easy way to bring him back and get him on the field.

The only knock I remember from Giants fans was that he occasionally free-lances and gets burnt, and will draw a few helmet to helmet flags. He's a bit of a headhunter.

Does anyone else remember that about him?

He is a big time hitter, I don't recall too many complaints about him. Would have been a frequent pro-bowl type player but the injuries took him out of football for multiple years. Might be a blessing in disguise for us, hate to say that because I like Bush but Kenny is a better coverage safety and just as good playing the run.

Re: Saints Resign S Kenny Philips

Phillips is just a stop-gap solution anyway because Byrd will be back soon... Hahahaha, I thought I could keep a straight face saying that but I was wrong lol.

I was hoping it wouldn't take shredding a guy's pectoral muscle or ACLs for the Saints to sign the right safety, but apparently, the universe has had enough of the Saints' sh*t and is now taking matters into its own hands.

They'll sign Pierre Warren before it's all over with too, because earth to Saints, Byrd will never be what we paid for. Trust me, I wish it wasn't true, but we've seen these things over and over, he'll never stay on the field for the Black and Gold. He's only played like what, 6 games going on 2 years. SELL SELL SELL

(I'd be ecstatic to have to eat crow for this by year's end)

Warren comes back and the int.'s in the secondary begins. I would like to see Phillips at SS and Warren at FS, that tandam looks to be a good fit. Vacarro should spell out Phillips from time to time and watch and learn a few things. KV's not Palamalu and never will be.

I think the saints should use KV like Arizona used Matthieu, KV suffer badly when using him in zone coverages

LOL, friends and I were just having this conversation...

It started with Will Smith...

We actually think that there will be enough injuries that the Saints will finally be forced to play a 3-4 defense!!!

And it'll work and turn the Saints into contenders!!!

And in the offseason, Loomis will draft even more 4-3, 3-tech linemen instead of what could really work!!!
