How did the group of guys that made their NFL debut yesterday look and what stood out?

“Like you would expect, I thought the younger players played with effort and energy. There is a lot of little things that need to be cleaned up just on the tape. I thought overall in the kicking game we were solid. I mentioned yesterday, I thought (Zach) Hocker obviously played well for his first start. The main thing were the specifics, not just defensively, offensively or in one specific area, but when you are coaching after the first game and we are in a race to make the corrections, the fundamental part of it I think is important, the alignment, technique and recognition. I thought the look in their eye and energy was good. Listen, and I will say this, there is a handful of veterans that had similar issues. So I thought by and large that young guys did pretty well.”

Can you talk about Delvin Breaux’s first start yesterday?

“He had the right look in his eye. We’ve kind of seen it from him all throughout camp, now that being said, past that five yard point there are some significant penalties that affect us so we have to get that part of it cleaned up and I am sure he is smart enough to do that.”

He said in the CFL you can keep jamming after five or 10 yards.

“It is a transition no different than the college game to our game, so we have to get that done quick.”

What did you see out of Damian Swann last night?

“He’s smart. I think technique-wise he does a pretty good job. I think when we get into some zone coverages, he probably excels a little bit more in the man-to-man. He rallied and made a big play on a third down stop and yet there are some alignment things (we need to work on). We received some bunch looks, some sack looks, some tight formations that can stress you a little bit in your man coverages and those are the things, part of what we need to clean up specifically with him.”

At this point I have lost faith in Payton & his ability to correct the problems.

Agreed

All those "we'll get it fixed" quotes we keep hearing that never turn out well.

One thing I firmly recall, early on in with Payton, he would make adjustments. If Brees was feeling pressure, leave Reggie back there or anyone. He made the corrections. Non issue the following week. I'm not sure if he has that mentality anymore. Things kinda stay broken. What is the RZ solution. Maybe Brees needs to bootleg, considering he never does it. It seems to me he is relying on stats and laws of averages. Doing that you wind up average.

Does anybody still listen to these useless interviews. These coaches might as well have flash cards. You never get anything but canned answers so why bother?

Exactly what are they going to say, to me it looks like all they want to do is get off the podium and get out of Dodge.
Belichick is the best at it gets down right nasty the press are afraid to ask him questions.

It's basically a waste of time interviewing SP. All of his answers just seem like random mumbling.

He looks like he is trying to have a BM. Jesus. This season may be worse than last season. Figure out how to loosen up, SP.

chill gents we'll be 2-1 in a couple of weeks going for 3-1, these kids will get better its not the same old team that does the same game in and out. the young guns will pull it together, we don't play pat. petterson for 16 weeks. we had chances to pick off passes that will happen in short time. it was the first game of the season with no preseason jelling if u ask me. its coming/

This makes sense moving forward we all have to be optimistic. If you think about it we have no choice this is the team. All we can do is complain,
piss & moan which we are all very good at. Who Dat!

As long as we continue to beat around the bush waiting for rob ryan to help our defensive player be decent, we will continue to be mediocre. GET RID OF RYAN.........Give Dennis Allen the reins lets see what hes got... If Rob Ryan was worth it he would still be in Cleveland...... :[

I can't pass judgment on Payton's interview yet, but I'll look at the tape and surely see some things he needs to clean up.
