In my opinion week 2 will show our season
We did plenty of things to lose vs cardinals but it's not like we didn't do anything positive.
However, if we are going to be a team that; drops 4 interception opportunities a game, allows huge runs up the middle on 2nd and 12 or can't score a TD in 4 redzone trips then I'm afraid it'll be another long season. I understand the Cardinals have a decent Defense, I don't quite get people calling them SB contenders, all I saw was a veteran team beating on a handful of rookies and Sean Payton being too stubborn to call anything but a screen pass. Obviously we'd like to see improvement in week 2 (I'd like to see a blowout) Just remember last season when people said "atleast we play the bucs" Remember what happened, we squeaked a win in overtime and then they threw the game in week 17 to get a better draft pick. Do not underestimate this team, they know our entire offensive playbook (not that it's hard to learn, I can call our plays from the formation now) We can't go into Tampa with; Brandon Coleman catching TD's then dropping crucial first down catches Marques Colston dropping 5 passes a game Offense not taking advantage of opportunities to score We certainly cannot settle for field goals every single trip. Defense needs to take advantage of turnover chances Jameis Winston threw a pick 6 his first ever pass, we need to get pressure on him and force mistakes. Finally, Sean Payton needs to man up and be the aggressive coach that he signed up as. All I've seen since 2012 is a conservative game manager who waits for other parts of the team to play badly and then jumps on that person, completely ignoring the fact that the offense is putting the defense in some very bad situations. |
Re: In my opinion week 2 will show our season
Get the drops under control. Winston is ripe for being picked, get the turnovers.

Re: In my opinion week 2 will show our season
I guess I am on the opposite end of this argument. I don't think week 2 will prove anything about the future of this season. It's a lose-lose as far as predicting how the rest of the season goes. If we win big, it won't be big enough(Titans won 42-14). If we win close, same 7-9 Saints from last year. If we lose, sky is falling/fire Ryan/fire Payton/Brees is done. If I am to believe the Saints are playoff contenders this year, this is not the game that will solidify my faith.

Re: In my opinion week 2 will show our season
to early to determine how the season will go from here, just get the win and improve from last week.
This game WON'T be a blowout even if the offense can shake its redzone issues. Its a match up of division foes and evenly matched teams IMO, Payton hasn't been the same since he came back from his suspension. There's a lack of aggression in his play calling and his attitude. |

The one thing that last week's game and this week's game have in common is that both are games the Saints should have won! Even with the injuries, if the offense and defense, (and the play-calling) were better the Saints would have won. The Saints have absolutely no reason to not score TDs on every possession against Tampa. The Saints schedule doesn't get any better after Tampa: Panthers, Cowboys, Eagles, failclowns, Colts, Giants, Titans. The Saints had better get their heads out of their collective a$$es or 2014's 7-9 record will be remembered as fondly as 2009. Saints 42-17 Geaux Saints |
Re: In my opinion week 2 will show our season
A win tells us nothing other than we're 1-1.
A loss however tells us we aren't the 10 or 11 win team we were hoping for. |
Re: In my opinion week 2 will show our season
This game against Tampa is the only game I can see us winning in the first two months. God I hope I'm wrong believe me I do but I see a 1-7 start to our season

This is when you can tell its a sad sad upcoming year when we start to call a game against the worse team in the NFL last year as a season defining game

Re: In my opinion week 2 will show our season
I agree, we can learn a lot about our team from this game. Tampa Bay is about on our level. It's not hard to imagine, that without Brees at the helm, the recent Saints roster of the last two years could easily have been a two-win trainwreck of a team, just like Tampa was last year. They certainly gave us quite a handful, both times we played last year.
The old days of Sean Payton kicking Tampa's can from one end of the stadium to the other, with those fantastic dominant 38-17 type blowout scores that we used to love and enjoy, both at home and at their place....those days are long behind us now. We will see a better yardstick of what we really have on our roster, come Sunday. |
Re: In my opinion week 2 will show our season
Watched several games this weekend to include the Saints ... What I saw by way of comparison was not encouraging ... Rams Philly Falcons 49'ers they all play at a different speed both on offense and defense ... In particular our compared to our offense, our offense is just playing to slow even with Cooks ... The opposing defense is in the play before we are ... No separation on short or long routes they are defended as though the defense knows not only the route trees but the actual calls before the snap ...
Our defense I think has some potential in the LB's and CB's ... The DLine is just plain bad, again slow no pressure, no tackles on running plays ... If we can not speed up to the matchup with competition it will be a long slow frustrating season. |
Re: In my opinion week 2 will show our season
Did my very own scouting (taped game/watched reply) on the Bucs :) ...
If we don't punish them by at least 17 points, I'd be really surprised. Their offense is predictable, and that defense I saw was AWFUL. Jameis appears to be a turnover machine on any given play. At times, he was throwing the ball as if he was still at Fl. State. The Bucs got major issues in all phases of the game right now. I understand this is a division rival and they are never easy however this game will be the exception. I would like to see a blitz or two from the Big Lebowski & also insert Murphy on third and short packages. Expect Breaux, Swann, K Sizzle (Kikaha) and/or Swann to have a nice game. R E L A X - Saints should roll easy :bng:. |
Re: In my opinion week 2 will show our season
I don't think you can actually judge any team until after week 4.
Some teams are still in preseason mode in week 1. Look at the slow starts two of the best teams (and SB champs) got off to last year. NE starts off slow and people are saying they're done and the Belicheat era is over yet they win the whole thing. GB starts off slow and Rogers has to go on radio shows telling people to relax, they end up as arguably the best team in the NFC (if not for some bum plays). The fact is it's not only too early to judge the Saints, it's also too early to judge the Bucs. |

If the defense continues to play like that Winston could be the offensive player of the week next week and you'll still win the game. If there is any silver lining it is precisely that you are at home next Sunday against a team with less talent and who are more shell-shocked at what happened week 1 than your boys. That said, go Bucs! ;) |
Re: In my opinion week 2 will show our season
Bucs looked horrible until they play the Saints... lol.
|
Re: In my opinion week 2 will show our season
I said before the season I think we win this one unconvincingly.
I'll stick with that. I think we start turning heads in 2nd half of season after these rookies get some experience. 4-4 at midpoint 7-1 to finish season |
Re: In my opinion week 2 will show our season
There is no thing as an easy division game.
But I totally agree with Mighty. This game tells me nothing good no matter what. If we lose I am extremely worried about our season. If we win, no matter how big, it is against a team I have very little opinion of. We should win easily but I have come to understand that any divisional opponent can play like the best team in the league against us and be horrible for everyone else. I won't be able to form an opinion regardless of the outcome of this one. |

Winston looks like a HoFer but somehow Saints find a way to win in the 4th

Last game was a tough blow. But when you feel down about the Saints you can always find comfort in the fact that:

Just 1 or 2 of the 4 opportunities would have changed the game. You get field position, defensive confidence, and throw the QB of his game. I saw interceptions all sunday from other teams that were not nearly as easy to catch than the 4 we missed. It looks like our guys on D have no idea how to play the ball or where it is sometimes. They just play whos in front of them, and have no focus of where the ball is going. Most of the time they were genuinely surprised the ball hit them in the numbers, or they had it. Plus the choke at the end if the game for a 7pt strike that allowed the Cards to put it out of reach was sssooooo usual for our D for the past 9 years it can be considered a Tradition. Just shows they cant be counted on to hold any lead we might get in the 4th. The average PPG for the NFL is 24, if you cant keep a team to 24pts then your below average I think. No excuses. Thats probably one of the worst OL we will face to. The O struggled, but I blame that on bad play calling, and drops. 1-4 is horrible in the red, but so were the plays called, and people will say that we had 48 pass plays, but that is not true. 18 of thows pass plays were short pass dump off run plays, which I think is easier than handing off. So you really looking at 28-30 real passing plays. We should have abandoned the run in the 2nd quarter and come out firing with a west coast or spread offense, and never did. Pick the run up later, it was not working against a run heavy defense. Thats 25 traditional run plays and 18 dump pass run plays = 42 plays wasted. Not sure what payton was smoking this game trying to force it. |
Re: In my opinion week 2 will show our season
Tampa at home? better have a revenge factor built into this one after last year.
NFC South on the road is a huge win. NFC South is always a must win at home. |
Re: In my opinion week 2 will show our season
We lose this game and we are ****ed.
BTW have I told you lately how much I hate that other big Saints message board? I wish I was one of the Ashley Madison hackers. |
Re: In my opinion week 2 will show our season
I feel we lose this game. Bucs by 5. Our D coaches blow this one, again.

Re: In my opinion week 2 will show our season
SP needs to call Jon Gruden and see if he will be our DC. Anyway, first pick in the draft next year from the looks of it.

Re: In my opinion week 2 will show our season
I have to wonder how many of you REAlLY thought we would go in to Zona with all our injuries and rookies and new pieces on offense and actually beat that team.
Personally I was not ultimately surprised...it's why I'm not quite so ready to throw in the towel. I was hoping we'd make a good showing...better than we did...but I look at the turnover and the injuries and think, as a few others have said, that it's just going to take some time. I can tell y'all I have the same faith in management I've had since 2006. Give this time folks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

It's only been in the last 3 years that we have consistently beaten the Bucs. I think it disingenuous to say the Bucs are just about at our level. Having a top-3, All pro caliber QB, makes all the difference. The offense does need to do their job, which specifically is to score points. Next week should be businesslike. Take care of TB and on to Carolina. SFIAH |
Re: In my opinion week 2 will show our season
One of the positives from the Cardinals game was that Ingram really came alive in the passing game. He did struggle in the run game, but against that stout run D it was to be expected. Only 54 yards rushing though, so that has to improve. The good news is that Bucs defense is all around terrible, so I agree this game may not tell us much. Still Carolina is beatable, even on the road, and then we get the Cowboys, who will be without Dez Bryant. It will be fun to watch the Saints get revenge on Dallas, at least I hope that's what happens. By the time of the road trip to Philly we could easily be 3-1.
I am optimistic, but we definitely can't have a start like last season, and I don't think we will. |
