Saints release RB Tim Hightower 1 day after re-signing him

It's been a busy week for former and then current and then former New Orleans Saints running back Tim Hightower.

But don't consider Hightower's comeback done just yet.
Hightower made the Saints initial 53-man roster on Sept. 5 but was released on Saturday, one day before the season opener at Arizona.

Hightower was already in Phoenix by the time the move was announced and watched the game with Saints coaches in the press box.
He was re-signed to the active roster on Monday, then released again on Tuesday.

Hightower's contract was terminated with an injury waiver designation on Tuesday. That usually means a player has agreed to a clause in his contract limiting a team's liability in the event of injury.

That would make sense for Hightower, 29, who was attempting a comeback after not playing in an NFL game since 2011.

A source close to Hightower said the injury was "minor" and unrelated to the knee injury that forced him out of the game earlier in his career.

So does that mean that we might see him on the roster again during the season? Or does it mean we need the spot for Spiller this weekend?

Hightower didn't need to be cut to give Spiller a spot. Spiller already has a spot on the roster. He was inactive last weekend, if he didn't have a spot he wouldn't have needed to be inactive.

This is beginning to look like the Billy Martin "You're Fired " commercial!

Why don't they just re-sign PT?

I was kind of hoping Hightower would catch on with a team. But, hey at least he's able to help us out if necessary. It's not like he's a WR.

Its the bottom of the roster, and it fluctuates daily. Why even bother keeping up with it? Its not like we're replacing starters.
