I think the window for the Payton-Brees era has closed.

I don't say that happily obviously. I wanted to see the magic one more time.

I don't say it arrogantly (I told you so manner) because I really thought we'd win 11 looking at the schedule, starting slow until the defense could get some experience. WRONG! The offense is pedestrian at best and that was not on my radar.


Dead money galore.
Brees not himself (either injured, slowing down, or lacking support)
O-line inconsistent pass blocking and horrible run blocking
WRs can't get separation
Defense improving but still gives up too many big plays
Pass rush is weak at best
Draft = disaster and free agency no better


I can see Ryan gone as the scapegoat, Allen & Payton coaching a Brees-less team in cap hell. Rebuilding next year - assuming Payton will stay.

VERY DISAPPOINTING.


I stick with the Saints until the end - but the window has closed on the combo that brought us a Champion...

Drafting mostly defense since the Super Bowl and we have only Cam Jordan & KV to show for it. Loomis need to be demoted or fired

The window actually slammed shut a couple of seasons ago but we were too much in love with this team to see it.

As much as I hate it, you're probably right. The defense isn't very good, and the offense is declining.

Brees has 27.5 cap hit next season. He can be cut to save 20 of that, but there will be 7.4 in dead money. Saints will have a big decision to make with him.

Poor drafting likely will doom the team for a couple of years as they rebuild and it will take smart drafting as it will take a year or two to clear bad contracts from the cap.

So, yeah...the window appears to be closed.

We should have DESTROYED Tampa. Worst team in the league last year, horrible to start 2015 season, we're at home, etc.

Fact is - since we lost in New England in 2013 - the trajectory of this team is approaching TAILSPIN.

True we should have beat Tampa, even though for the majority of the game their D-line looked like pro-bowlers, but after two take aways in the fourth and nothing to show for them, we didn't deserve to win anyway. Tampa was the better team, hands down, and that speaks volumes.

Seasons not over yet! Lets see how things pan out over the next few games before we ditch Peyton, Drew and the Front office staff etc.

Hope this doesn't happen but if we do get to 0-8, then I would probably agree with most of the comments above!

I will still, always, be a Saints fan though!!!

Brees hurt???

Given Payton's accuracy in initial injury reports, he's probably headed to IR - along with our season.

This isn't denial, just a different mindset...

We have an opportunity to find out what kind of quarterback we drafted in Grayson...

We just had one helluva draft and though two of the players did land on IR (we knew one was going to be there when we drafted Davis Tull), it was a foundation draft...

I don't want to come across as hating on Brees, but I, for one, am looking forward to seeing this new identity emerge with Anthony, Kikaha et al...

And am especially looking forward to getting rid of these bad and/or high end contracts in Brees, Byrd, Galette among others...

Plus, wouldn't mind seeing us unload Cam Jordan to say, NY Giants (so long as Jeff Ireland is handling the transaction and not Loomis, who usually pays sticker price at Benson's dealerships))...

I really believe we hit rock bottom last season in the Cincy and Carolina Games and we're now going back up...

IF not, we definitely put the sub on the bottom with the loss yesterday, but even still the team stuck together, kept fighting through the proverbial depth charge lumps, and waiting to rise again and send two up the league's collective arse...

And I wanna see us do it with Payton as the Saints head coach...

Actually, that is the one true, legit hit Coach Payton has taken with the fanbase is his credibility with regards to injury reports...

After watching pre-season games twice and the first regular season game I picked Tampa by 5. This team is disfuntional, has been since last year and late season the year before. I have no problem with a losing Saints team but the disfunction comes from the coaching staff. It's time to replace the good ole' boys with fresh blood. There is plenty of talent on this team and a few pieces and a good coaching staff we could be stout pretty quick. I want to see Grason at the helm for quite a few reasons, the main one being how he performs before next seasons draft. From what little I have seen out of him he actually looks like a cool costomer at the helm, but can he keep it up is the question and if so we want have to look any futher than him.

To be fair, the window closed the moment the FO made Brees the highest paid quarterback in the league. This made no sense from a Shapley value standpoint and crushed any hope of recovery until the contract expirrs.

This will be a 6 year long slow motion train wreck. We're just getting to the total impact. We saw flying debris this off-season and we're going to see more until 2017. Then we get to the aftermath. 2018 baby!

I would like to see a renovation of the coaching staff and build a solid unit to contend again .
