I refuse to accept this
Im not buying it. There is no way our team is this bad. It looks bad but I am not giving up yet. Other teams have gotten to the playoffs with their #2 QB at the healm. Other teams have had crap defenses that amazingly got it together around week 4 and finished the season more than decent. Payton has earned my respect and has earned the benifit of the doubt as far as I am concerned. Im only speaking for myself. Its obvious now that there was a reason and method behind his puzzling play calling yesterday. In 06 he came in and we had no idea what we are going to get. Our players over achieved that year. It wasnt just Brees, all the players stepped up.
Our defense although not great is playing with passion and heart. They are young and they will learn. Its not going to get any worse in that department barring more injury. Two years ago Carolina started 0-2 and looked horrible doing it. They were ready to run Newton and their coach out of town. They turned it around and had a damn good season. We lose 2 more and dont look like we have improved I am done. I will watch them for fun and just hope they play spoiler to Atl, Car, Tampa and maybe knock a wild card out of the hunt. It sucks today but it is much better than 2 months ago. At least there is football. |

Well said. |
Re: I refuse to accept this
Good news is we'll get Keenan Lewis back soon. That will help A LOT.

0-2 & no Brees. Looks grim.

Re: I refuse to accept this
They look to me like a team that was out at the club until 4:30 in the morning....too much partying and balling. They could turn it around, I guess, sure why not. But partying and "the life" and off field crazy distractions, has made many good players and teams in this league, look suddenly and inexplicably bad in the past; it's ruined locker rooms and rendered coaches useless, it's messed up plenty of teams in the past, including the Saints. Excessive partying can make athletic guys who are supposed to be good players, get thrown around like rag dolls or look flat and uninspired on the field. Too much partying off the field, can make otherwise competent teams choke and crumble on Sundays, and snatch defeat from the jaws of victory on inexplicable boneheaded plays and ridiculous penalties. In a lot of ways, it's exactly like what we're seeing here (at least to my own two eyes). If that's the case, there's not much that we can do about it.

Re: I refuse to accept this
In the spirit of "anything can happen", it's always a possibility. But from my vantage point, this 0-2 team has bigger problems then other teams that have gotten off to slow starts and made the playoffs. For one, we haven't rebounded well from bad starts under Payton, but the past teams that have missed the playoffs under him still put up points. I felt like those teams had a chance. We just turned it over too much, and didn't have any defense, but we could almost always make it interesting.
We don't have as many play makers as we used to, and the one's we have aren't getting the ball enough. There isn't even a spark. Drew was throwing wounded ducks before the reported injury, and now that he IS apparently hurt, I guess that would explain why he could barely even throw the intermediate passes yesterday. It's noble to want to play through it, but we don't have a chance if we try to run him out there right now. Our backup QB is terrible. So I don't see much of a chance there, either. I haven't given up, but I gotta try to be realistic with my expectations. |

We know McCown is terrible, atleast give Grayson a shot to see what we have as our possible future.

Re: I refuse to accept this
I'm never a glass half full guy. That being said, I don't get 'fans' joking about breaking out the bags and reliving the hell of 'Aints'. WTH guys. Week two and you're already throwing in the towel? Did this turn into a Cowboy fansite overnight?
It's OK if you jump right off of the Bandwagon you jumped on when we were high on the hog! Bail now so we don't have to deal with you when the going REALLY gets rough! >:( |
Re: I refuse to accept this
It's not just week 2 of this BS, it's week 18. Of course other teams in history have turned it around after a slow start. We aren't struggling through a slow start, we're aimlessly wandering through a continuation of last years play... All symptoms of the aforementioned management/coaching/front office debacle.

It's frustrating. But we all know we'll be watching. I take exception to people who think that every fan who isn't blowing sunshine up their butt is a bandwagon fan. |
Re: I refuse to accept this
I've supported Saints teams with less talent than this one, do I think they will turn it around NO but doesn't stop me from still cheering them on while they attempt to do it.
A wise man once told me this: we might of lost the game but we won the party. Kind of my outlook on this season |
Re: I refuse to accept this
I didn't start out with high expectations this season.......so I'll be fine.
|
Re: I refuse to accept this
I will say I haven't given up.... In fact I thought the defense looked better hopefully they get better each week I think They will.... Not having Brees will suck but maybe Payton won't abandon the run as quick....
|
Re: I refuse to accept this
I get the feel if this team could just gel it would explode (in a good way), so I'm holding out hope for that. Now with Brees and the shoulder, I am not so optimistic unfortunately (injury at 36 doesn't heal like at 26, don't care who you are), and those second half throws would indicate some type of injury to me.

Re: I refuse to accept this
I remember year after year after year being disappointed because we where getting the 5th or 6th pick instead of the first. Now people go nuts after we lose just a few games and they want the coach fired. Because of our coach the expectations have changed. Teams never wait long enough to get things fixed and I just hope our front office is patient enough to do that.

Re: I refuse to accept this
One thing about Payton - he never gives up. Yeah I know he's coaching below his standards right now, but I've never seen him give up even when we're 3 td's down in the 4th qtr. I hope he finds a way to turn this boat around.

What -- have we accomplished the impossible? Have we succeeded in adjusting Dude's attitude? Whoa. Now, I really do think anything could happen.
