Dr Andrews, not questioning him, he can likely play. Play well, I doubt it. We will start winning when we can hit receivers beyond 15 yards multiple times a game. If he can't do it we can't win.

If he plays, we'll see tons of screens and slants and running plays. Doubt if we see a throw longer than 15 yards.

The first question becomes: is the Payton/Brees regime in a "must win now" mode?

If it is and both men fear their job security next year, you can bet he'll play. If both men are secure in tanking this season (or at least the first 1/3 of it), then Brees sits.

The 2nd question is:

Is a 'X' percent Drew Brees > 100% McCown or Grayson

At 80% or above I say yes, but is Brees anywhere near 80% come Sunday?

Well maybe the real number is 50? Just saying we need an unbiased evaluation by the coaching staff. No more Brooks-Delholmme stuff.

Brees injured needs to be > backup healthy.


Assuming of course that we can protect him from further injury...

In 2009 Marc Bulger had a bruised -- but not torn -- the rotator cuff in his throwing shoulder. Bulger missed only one game.

He returned to action two weeks after suffering the injury and played the rest of the season.

Ben Roethlisburger had a "partially torn rotator cuff" but only missed 1 game due to an ankle injury, but probably rehabed the shoulder through that week.

You think panthers won't test that shoulder... I don't have confidence that he will avoid big hits.

Carolina will stack the box shutting the short stuff down daring Brees to throw. No win situation if u ask me. At least with a healthy qb. we stand a fighting chance. I say play Grayson and let him learn by fire. Who knows, we may win it don't have to be pretty and the Panthers have no game film on him.

I have a morbid feeling that Brees will throw a ball 40-50 yards hard downfield to prove everyone wrong ... and from there it's either going to be very good, or very bad.

That's the first thing I thought of because I will never forget it. We could have made the playoffs. I never understood that decision. Why stay in the game if you can't make the throws. It hurts the team and helps defenses out.

It's a cat and mouse game, SP will not show his hand until he has to.
The diagnosis is a bruised rotator I would keep him out of the Carolina game. He will be a cheap shot target for the Panthers D.

Yeah... that's it. Let's turn the offense into more of a one trick pony. The opponent's defense won't adjust at all or even target the injury. They all play nice, can't you tell?

If they don't respect the deeper ball, not even the deep ball, they can stack the line. There goes the running game and your short little passes.

It seems more PI is being called from the games I've seen. Seattle was getting called for it big time the other night which is well overdue. If we can't throw deep though, we don't get those calls from time to time and it makes Cook's speed a non factor. It would be like playing the whole game in the RZ which is what it looks like right now.

Playing with fire here. (1) You play Drew and he gets hit again, which is highly likely with our O line play, risk losing him for a long period of time. (2) Sit him this 1 game and let him have extra time to rehab. I say why risk it, go with option 2.

I would say chances of beating Carolina with the current Saints in Carolina are pretty slim anyway (just threw up a little saying that). Rest the shoulder and come back strong against Dallas to start a run.
And yes and I know an 0-3 team has blah-blah chances of post season success, whatever.

Yeah, why not suit up and give it a go. We've been watching his fluttering duck passes for 4 years now, why change? Anyway, no receiver on the squad can get separation to make a possibility that those ducks could be effective.

This Staff/FO won't change unless absolutely forced to.

McCown has won quite a few NFL games. I would not be shocked at all if he righted the ship after a few games.

And Drew, having always played with injuries, is obviously too stubborn to do what is right for his body. No competitor wants to sit, time for Payton to make the hard call.

Shocked if Drew doesn't play; die of shock if Grayson starts. The stubbornness (aka will-to-win) of Drew and Sean are now legendary...at 0-2, it is magnified.

Shocked, I tell you, if Drew doesn't start and Sean doesn't get him killed getting us back to .500 based on both of their stubbornness (aka will-to-win).

But I ain't no doctor...what do I know about the real status Drew's arm? I do know his deep ball ain't deep and Carolina will stack the line for the run and eat us alive inside of 15 yards in the pass if Drew is in there. Our 3rd and longs would require them to put just 1 single high safety...we'd be hosed. We'd be good to score 10 and our defense will be tasked with the impossible yet again.

Oh yeah...Fire Greg McMahon...it's been awhile.

If the powers that be think he's ready to play against the Panthers, then so be it, what do I know.

I personally feel he should sit out this week and then come back for the next game. You just know that if Drew plays against the Panthers, the Panthers defence are going to try and hit his shoulder/arm when ever they can and then he really could be out for the rest of the season!

It amazes me to see all the "Payton lost his fire"
or the "Payton is conservative" and yet some people want him to sit Brees.
If Brees feels he can play he gives us the best chance, Let him play.
